York High School Weekly Memo

Some thoughts for the starting school year

York High School Weekly Memo Some thoughts for the starting school year
York High SchoolWeekly MemoSome thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are having a nice week. We wrapped up our sophomore testing today (a few students may still need to make up next week), and our juniors took the PSATs yesterday. It has been busy around here, for sure, so I am sure the students are ready for the long weekend.

We have no school tomorrow, October 10, for a Staff Professional Development Day. This is a great opportunity for us to continue working on our goals and align our school with the district's strategic plan. At the high school, we continue to strive to improve in literacy and math, and both are a major focus for tomorrow's professional development. Thank you for supporting our professional growth.

If you need anything or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thanks,

Amanda

Cold & Flu Season Reminders from Nurse Sarah La Croix! Cold & Flu Season Reminders from Nurse Sarah La Croix!

When to Keep Your Student Home

We know school attendance is important, but so is not sharing the germs! Please keep your student home if they've had a fever or vomiting within the last 24 hours. When in doubt, you can always check our full attendance guidelines here. A little rest goes a long way!

A Note on Cold and Allergy Meds

My little office cabinet is fully stocked with cough drops, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen for minor aches and pains! However, please remember that I cannot dispense over-the-counter allergy or decongestant medications. If your student needs these, please make sure they take them before coming to school.

The Best Way to Reach Me (I Love Hearing From You!)

Please direct attendance calls (e.g., "My child is staying home today") to the main office. But, if you have any health-specific updates or questions for your student - like a new medication, an injury, or simply a health concern - please call or email me directly at slacroix@yorkschools.org. I'm always happy to help!

Wishing you all a healthy and spirited school year!

Sarah La Croix, BSN RN

Extended Learning Opportunity - Celiac Questionnaire Extended Learning Opportunity - Celiac Questionnaire

Lucas Kumin ('27) is completing an Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) to attempt to create change in the school system regarding available food options for students with Celiac Disease. He is looking specifically for students or families with a Celiac Disease diagnosis to fill out his survey. The information garnered from the survey will be incredibly helpful as it will provide him with information and experiences from others in our community. Lucas is working with our ELO Coordinator, Jess Pinette, as well as Food and Nutrition Director, Whitney Thornton, on this research.

If you have any questions about the events listed below, please reach out to your student's school counselor for more information.

College Rep Visits

College rep visits are starting up, and they'll be held in person or virtually this year. These visits are a great chance to talk with college representatives about their campuses and what they offer. Sometimes, the reps you meet with are the same admission counselors who will be reviewing your application!

There are many colleges and universities visiting, so be sure to check out all the available slots in Naviance. For virtual visits, it's important to be in a quiet space so you can have a clear conversation.

Juniors and seniors can sign up and reserve their spot through Naviance by clicking on the "What's new" window on your Naviance home page. If you need a quiet place to participate, please let Student Services know ahead of time. If you have any questions, please reach out to us in Student Services.
