Family Update 9/7/26
Week of Sept. 7, 2026 Family Update

Week of Sept. 7, 2026
Dear Skyline Students and Families,
What a great first week at Skyline! The first week of school always brings a little bit of everything: new classes, new teachers, new routines, reconnecting with friends, and, of course, a few moments of figuring out where we are supposed to be and when we are supposed to be there! Thank you to our students, families, and staff for your patience and flexibility as we get the year underway.
As we move into our second week, we will continue to focus on settling into routines and building the habits that will help students have a successful year. We encourage families to talk with their students about their schedules, attendance, arriving to class on time, getting enough sleep, and staying organized. These seemingly small routines make a big difference over the course of a school year.
There is something special about this time of year. The days are still warm, but we can feel the first hints of fall in the air. Fall is a season of transition and new beginnings, a chance to settle in, establish roots, and grow. That feels especially fitting for the start of a new school year. We are excited about what this year will bring and the many opportunities ahead for our students to learn, grow, and discover new possibilities.
Please Join Us for Open House: Tuesday, September 8!
We are excited to welcome Skyline students and families to Open House this Tuesday, September 8!
We will begin the evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium with a brief welcome and presentation by your administration team and important information for the year. Following the welcome, families will have the opportunity to rotate through their student’s course schedule, meeting teachers and learning more about what students will be doing in each class.
Open House Evening Schedule:
- 5:00 p.m.: PTSO General Membership Meeting, Room B206, right off the Commons
- 6:00 p.m.: Open House Welcome in the Auditorium
- 6:40 p.m.: Rotation through your student’s course schedule
We hope you will join us for this important opportunity to connect with your student’s teachers and learn more about the Skyline experience!
The School Building Clears at 3:00 p.m. Each Day
A reminder that Skyline clears at 3:00 p.m. at the end of the school day. Students should leave campus at that time unless they are participating in a supervised after-school activity, athletic practice, or other school-sponsored program. Students may not remain in the building unsupervised after the school day has ended. After School Tutoring for students from 3:00-5:00 p.m on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays will begin on Monday, September. 14.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is essential to student success. Being at school every day gives students the opportunity to engage in learning, build relationships, and stay connected to their classes and school community.
Please review Skyline’s attendance procedures and make regular attendance a priority. If your student will be absent, please be sure to follow the appropriate attendance reporting procedures.
Skyline Food Pantry
The Skyline Pantry is available to provide food and essential items to students and families who may need additional support. Students are welcome to access the pantry as needed before school, after school and during passing time.
We also appreciate donations from our Skyline community! Nonperishable food items, other pantry essentials and financial donations of cash or checks are always welcome. Your generosity helps ensure that we can continue supporting our students and families.
Thank you for being an important part of the Skyline community. We are off to a great start, and we look forward to all that this fall and this school year have in store!
Go Eagles!

Philosophy
The Ann Arbor Board of Education believes that regular and punctual attendance by students results in greater levels of student achievement in a safe, secure, and orderly school, in higher staff and student morale, and in better preparation for post-high school life.
An essential part of all education takes place through social interaction that one cannot learn from studying texts. While independent work and/or research is vital, it is equally important to hear lectures, participate in activities and discussions, be exposed to other peoples’ ideas, and work with non-print materials. For this reason, daily attendance and participating in class is crucial and will impact student performance positively.
Students and their parents/guardians should understand that excessive absences, whether excused or unexcused, might often drastically affect class grades. Successful students are seldom absent.
Extended Absence Form (3 days or more OR 1 or 2 days before/ after a school vacation/break)
Form must be turned in and signed by all teachers and SLC Administrator 5 days prior to the first day missed. Please download the Extended Absence Form by clicking HERE.
Procedures
Students are expected to be in class, punctual, and prepared to participate in the learning process every day. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential if students are to make use of the educational opportunities in high school.
Excused Absences
To excuse an absence a student’s parent/ guardian must notify the school of the student’s absence within 48 hours with an acceptable reason.
Parents/guardians may excuse absences only for the following reasons:
1. Personal illness
2. Illness of an immediate family member
3. Death of a family member or close friend
4. Verified medical or dental appointment
5. Verified legal proceedings
6. Emergency removal for administrative reasons
7. Suspension from school
8. Approved school-sponsored or school-related activity
11. Observance of a religious holiday
Additional Notes
The grade level administrator must pre-approve absences for family travel/college visits to allow for make-up privileges. Families are expected to completely fill out a “Request for Extended Absence” form and turn it in at the SLC level office in advance.
Once an extended absence is approved, the student has the responsibility to make the appropriate arrangements with his/her teachers.
When leaving during your scheduled school hours with permission, the student must check out at the student entrance CA desk.
Students may not be excused from class in order to remain in school to study for a test, go to the media center, complete make-up work, or attend some other in-school activity.
Students who arrive after the beginning of their school day or who return after checking out must arrive at the student entrance and present their school iD for entry.
Excused Absence Procedure
When reporting an absence, please be prepared to leave the following information:
1. Student’s name
2. I.D. Number
3. Grade Level
4. Date(s) and time(s) of absence
5. Reason for absence(s)
6. Your name and relationship to the student
Unexcused Absences
Unexcused absences are those absences where the student fails to attend class and the parent or guardian has not notified the school in accordance with the required attendance procedures.
Make-up Work
Teachers must allow students to make up work due to excused absences. Two days will be granted for the make-up of one day’s excused absence. Students are expected to take the initiative in asking teachers for make-up work.
Tardies (Excused and Unexcused)
Students have a responsibility to arrive on time. An unexcused tardy occurs when a student arrives after the bell rings without an acceptable excuse.
Consequences for unexcused tardiness will be in accordance with the provisions of the AAPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and the Skyline Student and Family Handbook.
Parent Notification
The primary method of notification arrives through a computerized message system to notify families of unexcused absences; parents can monitor through Powerschool for real time attendance. Parents may call the appropriate SLC office for student attendance records if needed. The primary responsibility for maintaining good attendance belongs to students and their families.
Skyline Homecoming 2026 - Week of Sept. 14
Skyline Athletics
Welcome back!
Hello Families and Students,
Thank you for the continued patience and support as we navigated some very interesting weather.
We have our annual T. Wall carnival the week of homecoming. We will need a lot of athlete support to run this event! Students please complete the google forms shared by Mrs. Bezeau during our Skytime announcements. Forms are linked in Schoology.
For any athlete interested in applying to be a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the application is here. Please turn in the application to Mrs. Sissoko, all applications are due at the end of September.
All students must be fully registered and have completed the pay to play fee through Rec & Ed. A sports physical is required as well. Below are some important links with a lot of information. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the athletic office if you have questions. Also, please check out the athletics website!
ATHLETE ATTENDANCE
Athletes are required to be in school a minimum of 3 class periods in order to participate in practice or competition each day. All coaches will be receiving an ineligible list of players daily. It is our expectation that coaches check this daily and exclude those players from practice or competition.
Any student new to Skyline and is in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade must complete the New Student Form and be approved by the athletic director before participating or trying out in any sport!
There is no parking at any time in our pickup/drop off loops!
Please check out the Ann Arbor Skyline Eagles App!
Sincerely,
Delsie Sissoko
Athletic Director
Assistant Principal
Action Needed: Education Benefit Forms for All Families Due October 1st
Please take a moment to complete the form and return it to your student’s school. The Education Benefits Form collects information needed to ensure the school receives state and federal funding for education programs. Without this information, our school could lose important funding for education programs that our students need. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
· Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids)
· Teaching supplies and materials
· Counselors and Social Workers
· School Nurses
· Professional Learning for staff
· Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities
· Technology
Why is the school requesting financial information?
The Education Benefits Form determines eligibility of a student or household. The total count of eligible students is used to determine the funding amounts that will be made available to a school. The more forms returned the better.
What do I need to do?
Please complete the form linked below. Families only need to fill on ONE form, listing all their children.
What else might my student or household be eligible for?
Based on the information you provide on your Education Benefits Form, your child may qualify for other programs such as:
· Pay to play or Pay to Participate
· Programs that provide food support
· Programs that provide field trip support
· Programs that provide school supplies or assist with school fees
· Programs that provide holiday support
· Potential household support for cable and internet
If you have any questions, please contact bollingere@aaps.k12.mi.us at 734-994-2265.

Student ID Photo Update
HR Imaging will be back at Skyline on October 14, 2026, during the 1st trimester, for additional photo retakes.
Electronic ID Cards
We will also have an electronic ID card option available, which we strongly recommend for all students to pair with their hardcopy ID. Students with personal devices will be able to scan a QR code that can be downloaded and used as their school ID.
The electronic ID can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
Entering after-school events
Entering the school building during the school day for late arrivals
Providing identification when needed throughout the school day
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the photo-quality issues from Day 1!
Feel free to contact Mr. Andre Criswell, SLC Principal via email at criswella@aaps.k12.mi.us for any questions or concerns.

Student & Family Handbook
Please Review the Student & Family Handbook
As we begin a new school year, we ask all students and families to take some time to read and review the Skyline High School Student & Family Handbook. The handbook contains important information about school expectations, policies, procedures, student responsibilities, attendance, academic guidelines, safety, and the many resources available to support our students. Taking the time to become familiar with this information will help ensure that everyone understands what is expected and knows where to turn when questions arise. Clear is Kind, and making sure our students and families have a shared understanding of our expectations is an important part of creating a safe, supportive, and successful school community. Please review the handbook together and reach out to us if you have any questions.
Traffic Flow
Please share this info with other family members or friends who may be picking-up or dropping-off students like you: THE SPEED LIMIT WHILE ON CAMPUS IS 10 MPH. Please drive slowly for the safety of all! Students arriving to school should be dropped off at the Student Entrance using the parent drop-off loop ONLY. Students will be required to present their student ID (physical or digital) upon entry to the building. Students who have already been called out and approved for early dismissal should be picked up at the parent pick-up loop at any time during the school day. The only time a student will be picked up at the main office is if a parent/guardian is coming in to pick up a student and this early release has not previously been called into the attendance line or front desk. Morning Arrival/Drop Off: PLEASE PACK YOUR PATIENCE and be kind! If you are turning into the parent drop-off loop, you should be in the left lane along the stadium. You should not be crossing over traffic to turn into the parent drop-off loop. The drop-off loop is ONE LANE ONLY! Students are exiting vehicles and we do not want cars driving past them as they are exiting their vehicles. There are barricades in the inner lane for a reason, please do not ignore them. We are doing our best to move people forward and to keep the line moving as quickly as possible. Please drive around other children how you would want others to drive around your child. The parent drop-off loop is a constantly moving line. We ask that you ALWAYS pull forward in the loop as far as possible and do not stop right in front of the school as this slows down the line and causes unnecessary delays. There is no parking and sitting in the loop. If you need to sit and wait for your child, we ask that you move to a parking spot near the baseball fields or tennis courts to wait for them there, not in the loop. When you arrive in the loop at drop-off in the morning, your child should be prepared to quickly grab their belongings and hop out of the vehicle as soon as you are able to come to a complete stop in the loop. This could occur at any spot in the loop, not only directly in front of the school. The line should constantly be moving forward for a continuous flow through. END OF THE DAY PICK UP: PLEASE PACK YOUR PATIENCE and be kind! If you are turning into the parent pick-up loop, you should be in the left lane along the stadium. You should not be crossing over traffic to turn into the parent pick-up loop. We understand that students come out at somewhat staggered times at dismissal. For this reason, we ask that you communicate with your child about their after-school plan. If they are coming directly out to the car at dismissal, please move forward as far as possible and continue moving forward as traffic moves. If they are not coming out right at the end of the day, please do not pull into the parent pick-up loop until your child is coming out and park in a parking spot near the baseball fields or tennis courts until they are ready to exit the school. So that we can allow those who have already picked up their students to exit, only at the end of the day, we will allow the inner lane after the end curve closest to the school to be used to pass cars that are still waiting on their child. Please drive slowly, use your turn signals, watch for merging traffic, and pay close attention to students as you exit the pick up loop. There will only be one lane of traffic exiting the pick-up loop. When exiting, you should remain in the left lane. For this plan to work safely and efficiently, it's essential that everyone adheres to the designated drop-off areas and traffic flow. Dropping off students in non-designated areas not only disrupts the traffic flow but also creates potential safety hazards for students walking in areas where pedestrian traffic is not expected. Do not drop students off in the student parking lot, this is not a student drop off location and creates dangerous traffic patterns that the space is not intended for. Our students consistently complain about parents dropping off in the student parking lot. Skyline has designed its traffic flow plan to optimize the use and safety of our roadways and parking areas. The road surrounding the stadium, baseball fields, tennis courts, and school will operate as a one-way route. Please refer to the diagram above for detailed traffic directions. Areas marked with blue arrows indicate one-way traffic, while sections with both blue and orange arrows are the only locations on campus where two-way traffic is permitted. The east side drop-off loop will continue to be used exclusively for parent drop-offs, and the west side loop will remain reserved for buses only. Please note that parking is prohibited in both loops at all times. A few years ago Mr. O, Payton, and Valencia made this short video to help you understand the traffic flow on campus. It states "2024 - 2025" at the beginning, but the video remains valid: Video linked here
Please keep in mind, that you are the model for our
future drivers!

🍎 🍕 Free Breakfast & Lunch for All AAPS Students!
Free Breakfast & Lunch for All AAPS Students - No Need to Qualify but we need the Education Benefit Form (EBF).
We are excited to remind families that breakfast and lunch are FREE for all Ann Arbor Public Schools students during the 2026-27 school year! Students do not need to qualify for free or reduced-price meals to receive a free breakfast or lunch. (Ann Arbor Public Schools)
What We Need From Every Family:
Although meals are free for all students, ALL AAPS families are asked to complete the annual Education Benefit Form (EBF). The information collected through this form helps AAPS identify students who may qualify for additional benefits and, importantly, helps the district receive state and federal funding that supports our schools.
EBF information can help determine eligibility for programs such as:
Free or reduced-price meal benefits
Pay-to-Participate assistance
Food support programs
Field trip assistance
School supply or school fee assistance
Holiday support
Potential household support for cable and internet (Ann Arbor Public Schools)
One More Important Note
Free breakfast and lunch cover complete breakfast and lunch meals. A la carte items, such as an individual carton of milk or other individual items, are not included and will be charged to the student's account. (Ann Arbor Public Schools)
Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete the EBF! Your participation helps ensure that AAPS receives the funding and resources needed to support our students and schools. (Ann Arbor Public Schools)
Notes from Nurse Mary
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! My name is Mary Delis and I am entering my ninth year of school nursing and my second year at Skyline. I look forward to working with you and your students this school year.
Please reach out to me if you have any health updates or questions.
If your student requires medication or emergency medication (epi pens, albuterol inhaler, etc) to be kept at school, AAPS medication administration policy requires updated documentation each school year.
Please have Action Plans (Asthma, Food or Seizure) completed by your healthcare provider and submitted to me via email or in paper form.
If your student does not have a specific plan, please see links for AAPS order forms. I recommend that families choose the Self-Administration option for their students at the high school level. Exceptions may apply in some situations - students may not carry controlled substances under any circumstances. Please reach out to me if you have any concerns. I also recommend that students keep a copy of documentation with their self-carry medication at school.
AAPS Medication Administration Forms
Please see AAPS Medication Policy for details on medication submission.
I will be present at the Skyline registration dates on August 17th and 19th. You may submit any paperwork and medication during those times. Please note that controlled substances must be submitted by a parent or guardian and must be counted at the time of submission.
Thank you in advance for your support. Enjoy the last days of summer!

AAATA Bus Passes for Eligible Students
The Ann Arbor Public Schools is pleased to offer eligible high school students an AAATA bus pass if they live within the AAATA service area, and live further than 1.5 miles from their assigned high school. AAPS does not provide AAATA bus passes to In-District Transfer or School of Choice students. These students can apply for a Space Available seat on an existing bus route. You can apply at this link:AAPS Space Available Application
Eligible students can pick up their bus pass during registration or at the main office. If you are uncertain weather your student is eligible for a bus pass, you can check the Attendance by Street Directory . There is an "A" after the street name/address if your student's address qualifies for an AAATA bus pass.
AAATA bus passes are good for two (2) trips per day, Monday - Friday during the school year.
PTSO
As we plan for the coming school year, the Skyline High School PTSO is looking for parents and caregivers to join our board and help support the students, teachers, and staff who make Skyline such a special community. The PTSO plays an important role in funding student programs, supporting classrooms, and strengthening connections across the school—and we need new voices to continue that work. We will have openings for Vice President, and two Member‑at‑Large positions. These roles offer a meaningful way to get involved without an overwhelming time commitment. Board meetings are held once a month for about 45 minutes via Zoom, with full PTSO meetings following the board meeting every other month. Serving on the board is an impactful way to support Skyline, ensure your perspective is heard, and help make a difference for our students and staff. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, this is a great opportunity to step forward. Please reach out to Brent Hegwood at bhegwood@gmail.com for more information.

D&D Group for Teens with Anxiety
Thrive Counseling is excited to be offering a Dungeons & Dragons group again this Fall! They are running one group focused on tackling social anxiety and social connection. The group is for students aged 13 - 16 and is limited to 10 participants. Unlike the summer group, this group is a closed group and sign-up covers all six sessions. Space is limited to 10 participants and fills on a first come, first served basis. We will be running this group at Mallett's Creek Library for six weeks on Fridays starting October 16th through November 20th, from 4pm - 5:30pm.
