BE PRESENT: Phones Down, Heads Up!

At Lodi Unified School District, we are committed to creating meaningful connections and maximizing learning opportunities for every student. As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, students will be expected to keep their cell phones turned off and put away throughout the entire school day, including during lunch, recess, breaks, and passing periods, as part of our district-wide Be Present initiative.

The purpose of this initiative is to promote a more focused learning environment while encouraging students to build positive, face-to-face relationships with their peers and school community.

We encourage families to talk with their student(s) about the importance of being fully present during the school day and the many benefits of taking a break from technology. By limiting distractions, students are better able to engage in learning, participate in classroom discussions, strengthen friendships, and develop healthy communication skills.

Thank you for partnering with us in supporting this important initiative. Together, we can help create a school environment where every student is engaged, connected, and ready to learn.

For additional information about the Be Present initiative, including the district policy and frequently asked questions, please visit the Lodi Unified website.
