OCTOBER'S MESSAGE
Dear Family Members:
We keep talking about attendance and the importance of having your child in school each day. Last month was Attendance Awareness Month – but sharing some thoughts this month seemed to make sense since the school year is now in full swing. Schedules are always on-going but most families, staff, and even I have many schedules that keep me on track. Obviously, I can thank my parents for believing education and going to school each day was important. I hope that I have instilled that in my own children. Our B. A. R. K. – Best effort, always cooperate, respect, and kindness matters – can only be reinforced with our students if they are here each day.
HERE ARE 8 REASONS TO COME TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY
1. READING ON GRADE LEVEL
Studies show that consistent attendance from PreK gives the best start for early literacy development. Students who are not reading on grade level by 3rd grade have a lower chance of graduating. It starts early!
2. MAXIMIZING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME WITH TEACHERS
Fewer disruptions mean more personalized learning and academic support. School is still the BEST place to learn. The more time students have with their teachers, the more successful they will be.
3. BETTER ACHIEVEMENT
Abundant research links excellent attendance to higher grades, test scores, on-going assessments, and the like. School is the PLACE WHERE LEARNING TAKES PLACE.
4. DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE STUDENT HABITS EARLY
Good attendance instills vial skills, like punctuality, time management and self-discipline. A big part of succeeding in learning is how to learn.
5. FORMING LAST FRIENDSHIPS
Attending daily allows students to foster strong social bons and an inclusive peer network. Even if friendships do not work out, developing the skills is only possible with ongoing interaction.
6. DEMONSTRATING RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMITMENT
Employers – yes, it all starts here – value established patterns of dedication and follow through. The commitment to learning starts at our level.
7. GREATER SELF ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE
Not having to play catch-up reduces stress and boosts self-assurance.
8. JOINING CLASSMATES ON EXCITING PROJECTS, DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES, AND EVEN FIELD TRIPS
Don’t miss out on hands-on learning experience in and out of the classroom. This rich experience often cannot be replicated. Sometimes these experiences help students to figure out their passion in learning.

Family and School Association Executive Board
FAMILY AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
In the spirit of working together, the Family and School Association is asking that as many families as possible can help out during the school year. It can be as easy of volunteering one or two hours a yer to an activity you child is involved in. It can mean baking something extra for one of our events. It could mean any type of donation - time, money, expertise, and anything we have not thought of.
There are many upcoming events that the Executive Board has planned for our students and their families between now and the end of the year. Without additional help and support, there is always the risk of not being able to have those events. If you can help out, email the Executive Board at REEDSFSA@gmail.com

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH
There are two important issues for families to think about when reviewing the Free and Reduced forms. First and foremost, by being eligible, your child will be able to get a nutritional lunch each day. Please note that the eligibility criteria have changed. The state is moving toward having all students eventually have free lunch.
The second key to having families who are eligible sign up is that state aid to districts is connected to free and reduced lunch eligibility . The district will possibly get more aid if our eligibility is higher than 50%. Last year, the district did meet that requirement.
