It's Time For Some Shout-Outs!

Despite the unpredictable weather, it has been an exciting and eventful week for Pioneer Nation! Our students and staff have been busy with athletic achievements, academic competitions, and special celebrations—including Valentine’s Day, the 100th day of school, and the ongoing challenge of staying healthy during this time of year.

In athletics, both our 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams secured wins last week in their only game against Almond-Bancroft. Our high school girls’ basketball team also had an outstanding week, earning two victories, including a big win over Mauston on Senior Night. We celebrated six remarkable seniors who have made a lasting impact on the program—thank you for four years of dedication and success!

The boys’ basketball team had an undefeated week, going 3-0 and making history. With 16 wins, they now hold the most season victories for Westfield Boys Basketball in over 25 years! A special congratulations to Sam Berruecos-Morales, who became the all-time leading scorer in Westfield Boys Basketball history with his 25-point performance against Nekoosa. He continued his incredible streak with a 34-point game at Portage, bringing his career total to 1,283 points—and counting!

In wrestling, we are proud to celebrate outstanding achievements as well. The girls’ team advanced three wrestlers to the sectional competition at Eau Claire North, while the boys’ team had seven athletes qualify for sectionals next Saturday in Westby. Additionally, we had three regional champions—congratulations to Arianna Weber, Mason Groskreutz, and Lincoln Beyer!

Westfield students also shined in FCCLA competition, earning multiple Gold and Silver awards in culinary arts, nutrition, leadership, and knife and garnish skills. Their hard work and talent continue to represent our district with pride.

Beyond athletics and competition, our students are also showcasing their artistic talents. Shoutout to Ms. Trewin, Mr. Greve, and the dedicated cast and crew of our high school drama program, who took the stage for their murder mystery performance. A huge thank you to all the staff who made the event possible, the parents of the cast and crew for their support, Ms. Wentzel and the student artists who showcased their work, and Ron Anderson, Eric Mike, and Linda Metoxen for their countless hours of effort to bring the show to life. We are also grateful to Brakebush Brothers for donating the main course for the meal and to Tammy Hamilton, who volunteered to cater the event with the help of our students.

Additionally, we want to recognize 24 senior students who were honored last week for their dedication over the past four years in supporting our athletics programs and the spirit of our school. Their commitment to cheering on their classmates, fostering school pride, and contributing to a positive atmosphere at games and events has made a lasting impact. Thank you, seniors!

Looking ahead, our school will proudly host the South Central Conference Solo & Ensemble Festival on Saturday, February 22nd. This is an exciting opportunity for our musicians and an important event for our district. Additionally, the Middle School Band (grades 6-8) will perform a concert on Thursday, February 27th, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium—please join us in celebrating their hard work and talent.

As we head into the final stretch of winter activities, please continue to support our students as they compete for conference, regional, and sectional titles. Whether in athletics, culinary arts, or the performing arts, our students are making Pioneer Nation proud!

Go Pioneers!
