From the Principal's Office
Thank you for supporting our book fair. Every dollar we make as a school goes directly back to students in the form of books and resources for our library. We appreciate our LJ community so much!
The Wild Robot
We are currently reading the book The Wild Robot in every classroom and students are learning new vocabulary to add to our graffiti wall. Those are some impressive words!
We are very excited to be able to take the entire school on a field trip to see the movie, The Wild Robot! Classrooms will have just finished the book the week of our trip. Be sure to return the permission slip sent home this week so that we can get an accurate count of students attending.
**Because this is a school wide field trip, we will be filling up multiple theaters with students and staff and unfortunately will not have space for parent chaperones to attend.
Repeated Information (but still important!)
SBDM Minority Parent Representative
What is SBDM? A process that involves councils that set school policies that are consistent with district board policies. The goal is to improve student achievement and help schools meet their goals. SBDM councils may cover topics such as curriculum, instruction, assessment, budgeting, staffing, and school organization.
The Council meets once a month after school.
Per state policy, a parent on SBDM is defined as:
A “parent” means a parent, stepparent, or foster parent. Guardians also qualify as parents if the student lives with them and they have a court order giving them legal custody. A parent council member will be the parent of a student pre-registered to attend the school during the parent's term of council service.
If you are interested in serving in this position, please reach out to Mr. Mullins!
We are a Title I School
What does it mean when you hear a school say that they are Title 1?
A Title 1 school is a school that receives federal funding to help improve academic achievement for students from low-income families.
How does LJES use their Title 1 money?
The funding has limitations on what you can do with it as there is strict accountability for those dollars. Typically, LJES uses Title 1 money to purchase classified staff who can assist students who are struggling in class. This year is no different; we hired 2 assistants to work with students in class and through pull out, catching up on learning gaps that are present. We also pay for part of our librarian's salary since LJES only qualifies for a part-time librarian. We want students to have access to books and library services all the time and believe a full time librarian will make that possible. Our librarian is also in charge of chromebook inventory and troubleshooting technology issues in the building.
