Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

Dear BFPP Families,

It might be getting chillier outside, but we have both warm bodies and hearts at BFPP! Thanks to our functioning boiler it is lovely to walk into a warm building. I appreciate all of the patience demonstrated last year in living with the temporary solution....but really grateful to have heat.

The other warmth at BFPP is all the heart forward care and community that is demonstrated each day. You can feel it in the halls, through conversations and friendly interactions. I am truly grateful that we can embrace each other in a diverse community with various beliefs, values, philosophies and lived practices. We can achieve this because there is a focus on shared respect and common hopes. Keep living in love BFPP! That is how to bring both light and warmth to the world.

With a glowing heart,

Kate

The Leadership in Action class has another exciting project they would like to share with you. As you will see in the pictures, we had a community member with MS come to our classroom. His name is Namaan. He won volunteer of the year award from the Bellingham School District. He volunteers in 15 of Bellingham’s schools! He is a very positive human wanting to do good in the world. He asked our leadership class if we would help with a project he is wanting to do. It is collecting socks for the Family Resource Center for families in need. The Family Resource Center is run by the school district . As you might have already seen, there are strings of socks above decorated boxes to contribute to. Kate will also be bringing her dresser to collect draws of socks.

Namaan will have a table that folks can contribute socks at the craft fair on December 12th. Please consider donating. Students will be taking turns hanging out at the table with him.

Sturdy Parent Community Group Sturdy Parent Community Group

Next meeting: Tuesday, December 17th 12:30-2pm. This community group is coming from a wellspring of interest resulting from the Sturdy Parenting workshop that was held last month; AND, we continue to welcome any adults who are curious about wrangling with the balance of establishing boundaries while communicating empathy in their work as parents and educators.

We’ll again delve into the research of Dr. Becky Kennedy, clinical psychologist and author of Good Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want To Be. Join us! And come with a sense of camaraderie and a willingness to explore and connect. Come with some thoughts about this Dr. Becky nugget: The role of a sturdy parent is to: “acknowledge, validate, permit.”

Please RSVP to Erin at erin.mccarthy@bellinghamschools.org by 12/16. And for those of you who haven’t yet listened to Dr. Becky on the Huberman Lab, you can find it here.

Emergency and Weather Procedures Emergency and Weather Procedures

It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations. Depending on conditions, BFPP could close for the day or open two hours late.

If schools are open two hours late, all classes, meetings, and events at BFPP before 11am are canceled. Classes that begin at 11am and later will occur at their normal times.

Even when school is open for the day, families make their own decisions about travelling to campus during adverse weather.

Please familiarize yourself with our weather procedures at bellinghamschools.org/weather.
