Principal's Corner
Hello, FamiLEE!
It's been a busy and productive week full of academic and extracurricular excellence!
Thursday morning, students and staff attended a production of A Monster Calls. Our students in the audience behaved beautifully, and our students on and backstage performed spectacularly! We're so grateful to our cast, crew, and faculty for putting together such a wonderful show, and we hope they break a leg this weekend at Trumbauer!
Thursday night, we celebrated our many senior football players, band and auxiliary members, and cheerleaders at our last game of the season. These students played and performed each week with heart and dedication, and we can't wait to see where they take their talents once they graduate!
Friday morning, our basketball coaches hosted our first ever First Look Friday, showcasing scrimmages, a 3-point contest, and a dunking contest. Everyone enjoyed seeing the athleticism of and camaraderie among our students and staff, and we're all looking forward to seeing the basketball teams succeed on the court this season!
It is so very important for your student to be at school each day so they don't miss the great things happening at Lee. If for any reason your student isn't able to attend, please make sure you send attendance emails to LHS.Attendance@hsv-k12.org. We want to make sure the attendance is coded correctly.
Have an amazing weekend!
Sincerely,
Kitrise Torain
LHS Principal

FamiLEE Spotlight
Congratulations to our FamiLEE spotlight this week, Mr. Antonio Ford. Mr. Ford is a collaborative teacher and the head football coach. His students say Mr. Ford cares about them and helps them with their schoolwork. The person who nominated him had this to say: Antonio Ford dedicates countless hours to our football program beyond just Friday nights. He truly understands the importance of preparing young men for their future, both on and off the field. Despite any challenges, Antonio always carries a smile and maintains an optimistic attitude, inspiring everyone around him. Be sure to congratulate Mr. Ford when you see him. We are blessed to have him as part of our famiLEE!
Shout-Outs
- Shout out to Freshman of the Week Jaelyn McDonald, who comes to us from Chapman Middle School. He is a member of the 9th-grade basketball team. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games. After high school, Jaelyn plans to attend college and hopes to play basketball while majoring in business or engineering. His favorite teacher at Lee is Mr. Jordan because he creates a great classroom environment, helps students learn, and makes learning fun!
- Shout out to Ms. Sisson's first block authors! After workshopping their peers' pieces, they intrinsically began a whole group discussion on the importance of research in the writing process. They shared the how, when, where, and why they each research. Ms. Sisson said it was an instructor’s dream to witness!
- Shout out to the Lee High School Math Team! They received third place in our district in the team's competition at the 41st Annual Math Tournament held at the University of Alabama this past weekend!

New HCS Wireless Communication Device Policy: We want to inform you about an important update to our school policies in response to a new state law. On May 14, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey signed the FOCUS Act (Freeing Our Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety) into law. This law, which went into effect July 1, 2025, requires public schools across Alabama to limit student use of wireless communication devices during the instructional day to improve focus, safety, and engagement. In compliance with this law, Huntsville City Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy beginning Fall 2025. Please click here to review the new HCS Wireless Communication Device policy.
Attendance
We want your child to be in school with us every day! Attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. We can't teach children who aren't at school. We have a goal of 95% this year. Please help us reach this goal by ensuring your child is here every day. If you child has to be out, please send excuses to LHS.attendance@hsv-k12.org.
