The 2024-25 athletics season kicked off last week with our women’s soccer team, under new head coach Chris Shaw, playing the first match of the year at home versus Monmouth. The next home event is this Thursday when our men’s soccer team will take on Army at the Temple Sports Complex at 6 pm. I look forward to seeing our fans at the games this season supporting our Owls!

With the start of the 2024-25 season, the Temple Sports Radio Network is transitioning to a new, easily accessible platform at owlsports.com/listen. This means that listening to the Owls' football, men's basketball, and women's basketball games will be more straightforward than ever. There's no need to download an app and there is no cost involved. Fans from every corner of the globe can now tune in and hear the games live.

Since our last newsletter we welcomed back to the Nest our men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey and volleyball teams. All received new gear and are preparing for their respective seasons that are right around the corner.

Congratulations to Madelyn Fox, a senior on our women’s rowing team, on being named to the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.The current president of the American Athletic Conference SAAC, Maddie is the first Temple student-athlete to serve on the NCAA SAAC Board since former volleyball player and current Senior Coordinator for Leadership and Professional Development, Alyssa Drachslin represented Temple and the AAC in 2016-17.

Fifteen Temple Student-Athletes, representing five varsity sports, are currently on a foreign tour of the United Kingdom as part of their enrollment in a course, The UK Experience, led Dr. Scott Gratson and in partnership with the Klein College of Media & Communication. Jennifer Locey, Associate Director of the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes and Dave Gerson, Associate Director of Development, are also on the trip. Temple opened its campus this week as the incoming freshmen class started moving into on-campus housing and, as every year, our student-athletes and staff were there to greet them and assist in any way possible. This is truly an exciting time in the lives of these families and first-year students, and we want to ensure the transition is an easy one.

Varsity, the leader in apparel, competitions, and camps for Spirit teams across the county held a high school cheerleading camp and a college cheerleading/dance camp at Temple University over the past few weeks. More than 1,600 student-athletes, including 32 cheerleading teams and 22 dance teams spanning from the University of Rhode Island to James Madison University on the east coast, attended these camps. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our campus, including our residence halls and athletic facilities, to this group. The plan is to continue to work with Varsity to grow these camps at Temple in the upcoming years. Congrats to our very own Temple Cheerleaders and Diamond Gems Dance Team who swept the awards given out at this camp.

On Aug. 15 the American Athletic Conference released its 2025 Football schedule. Our Owls will play home games against East Carolina, Navy, UTSA, and Tulane. The team will travel to Army, Charlotte, North Texas, and Tulsa. Three non-conference games have already been announced with a home game against Oklahoma (Sept. 13) and road games against UMass (Aug. 30) and Georgia Tech (Sept. 20).

The American Athletic Conference released its 2024 Football Schedule on Feb. 29 so there is no better time to renew your Temple Football season tickets for the upcoming campaign. Our home schedule includes four teams Coastal Carolina (Sept. 14), Utah State (Sept. 21), Florida Atlantic (Nov. 16) and North Texas (Nov. 30). making their first appearance at Lincoln Financial Field. For our current men’s and women's basketball season ticket holders, you should have received a renewal notification via e-mail. We hope you enjoyed this past season with Coach Richardson's women's team earning a share of the AAC Regular Season title and the men's team, under first year head coach Adam Fisher, making a dramatic run to the AAC title game. We look forward to seeing you at the Liacouras Center next season as 2024-25 promises to be a great year for both programs!!
