Only 8 Days Until Summer Break!
Dear Tiger Families,
With only 8 school days remaining, we are excited to finish the year strong and safely. As we enjoy these final days together, I am asking for our entire Tiger community’s continued help with dismissal safety.
Please continue to follow our dismissal expectations. Parents should not parallel park along Sabino at dismissal time. This creates an unsafe situation for our Tigers who are walking, biking, or scootering home, and Sabino is not a safe location for loading students into vehicles.
If your Tiger is riding home with you in your vehicle, please join the car rider line and pick up your child at the front entrance of the school. The car rider line moves quickly, especially if you arrive around 3:05–3:10 p.m.
If you wish to pick up your Tiger from the walker door, please park in one of our parking lots rather than along Sabino. Another safe option is to park at West Cypress Hills Park and have your Tiger meet you there.
I also want to address the traditional end-of-year water balloon activity that some families have participated in after school. Please know that this activity is not sponsored, organized, or supervised by WCHE. While we understand that it is a fun tradition for many students and families, it has grown into a large gathering near the walker doors during dismissal, which creates significant safety concerns.
Last year, we had a serious incident in which a student ran toward the street and was nearly hit by a car. This is exactly the type of situation we are working hard to prevent. During dismissal, my staff and I are focused on safely getting all students home, and we are not able to supervise a parent-organized activity while also managing dismissal.
For the safety of all Tigers, I am kindly asking families who choose to participate in the water balloon tradition to move this activity away from the walker doors and over to the WCH Community Park basketball courts. This will help keep students away from dismissal traffic, sidewalks, and the busy walker exit area.
Students should only participate if their own parent or guardian is present and actively supervising them. If a student is dismissed as a walker, they are expected to follow their regular dismissal plan and leave campus safely.
Please know this request is rooted in student safety. I have tried my very best to support a joyful end-of-year tradition while also keeping our Tigers safe, and I need our community’s help to make that possible.
Thank you for your cooperation, partnership, and care for our WCHE community.
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ
Thank you, Literacy Partners!!!!
Every child deserves the chance to succeed. In 2009, community and church leaders asked local superintendents how they could make a lasting difference in the city. The answer was simple but powerful: support children’s literacy and reduce school dropout rates. That vision became Education Connection.
Our volunteers read one-on-one with elementary students for just 30 minutes each week—building confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of reading. As our program grows and more children need support, every minute you give becomes a stepping stone for a child’s future.
Thank you for volunteering to read with our Tigers!

May Counseling Happenings!
On May 11, our Tigers enjoyed their annual Career Day! We are so thankful to the incredible volunteers who took time out of their day to share their experiences, knowledge, and passions with our students. It was a fun-filled and inspiring day for everyone involved!
In classroom guidance lessons, students have been reflecting on their growth throughout the school year. Tigers have been discussing questions such as, “How have I grown this year?”, “What have I learned this year?”, and “What was my favorite part of this year?” These reflections help students recognize their hard work, celebrate their accomplishments, and appreciate the many ways they have grown while looking ahead to make next year their best one yet.
I (Ms. Bryn) have also been meeting with small groups of 5th graders during lunchtime to talk about the transition to middle school. These student-led “Lunch Bunch” conversations provide a space for students to share their questions, worries, and excitement about 6th grade. By the end of the school year, every 5th grader will have participated in a Lunch Bunch. These meetings have been a meaningful way to connect one last time before our 5th graders head off to middle school, and my hope is that students leave feeling more comfortable, confident, and excited for the journey ahead.
Let's make this last week and a half of school great!! Thanks for an awesome year, Tigers!
