Buffs Newsletter
This Week at the Hill

Message from the Principal, Dr. Andre Bala
Students,
You’ve got this!
These last few weeks are your chance to show what you’re truly capable of. Turn in that missing assignment, study a little extra for that quiz, ask that question you’ve been holding back, and lean on your teachers, counselors, and classmates. We are all here to support you.
Remember, effort beats perfection. Even small steps, such as showing up on time, staying focused in class, and using your time wisely, add up to big results. Don’t let one tough day or one low grade define your semester. What matters most is how you finish.
Take care of yourselves, too. Get some rest, stay hydrated, and check in on your friends. A strong finish isn’t just about grades; it’s about doing your best and supporting each other.
Buffs, let’s finish this first semester with pride, with purpose, and with the determination that makes Smoky Hill special.
Keep pushing, believe in yourself, and finish strong.
Dr. Bala
Smoky Hill STRIDE Clinic Relocation
The Smoky Hill STRIDE Clinic is being relocated to the southeast parking lot, just outside the Smoky Hill Cafeteria and Nurses' Office. Because of this, the southeast parking lot will be closed for construction and will reopen on Monday, November 24th.
Here is the Smoky Hill STRIDE Clinic relocation timeline:
-Wednesday, 11/26 – During Thanksgiving break, the construction company will complete infrastructure work.
-Saturday, 11/29 – The construction company will demobilize from the site until Winter Break.
-Friday, 12/19 – Stride begins relocation; Construction company re-mobilizes to the site.
-Monday, 12/22 – Wednesday, 12/31 – Stride modular relocation construction activities (to be completed during Winter Break).
-Friday, 1/2 – Sunday, 1/4 – Stride moves back into the clinic; construction company demobilizes from the site.
We ask that community members not enter the construction zone and be respectful of the relocation process. I appreciate your patience, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Final exams are December 16-18
Final exams are December 16-18. Final exams allow students to demonstrate what they’ve learned and to finalize their grades; they also reinforce a culture of academic excellence by setting high expectations, honoring sustained effort, and emphasizing true mastery of course content. To reinforce this belief, all teachers are expected to provide students with a final exam, culminating activity, or in class presentation on their designated exam day. In turn, students are expected to attend and participate in final exams. In the instance a student misses an exam/s, the Student Make-up/Late Work Policy applies, and if eligible based on that policy, would be able to make up the exam during the remainder of finals week or when school resumes after the winter break.

Smoky Hill Buffs Pantry
What is Buff's Pantry?
As a class, we have aimed to make a difference in our Smoky Hill community, and we decided to do this by creating a safe space where students can receive the food and hygiene products they need on a weekly basis. We offer multiple types of food, whether it’s canned/boxed or just quick snacks, hygiene products, baby products (diapers/wipes), and clothes/shoes. We receive donations from SECOR, the local community, students, and our CCSD district Food Pantry Liaisons. Last year, we were able to serve 70 families in total. Our goal is to limit food insecurity and strengthen our school holistically.
Weekly, as students scan the QR codes that are placed in every classroom and around the school and we receive orders in the Google Form, Call 2 Action students will create individualized bags for each student. They will then deliver them to the counseling office. Students will be called to the counseling office to pick up their bags. Our hope is to reduce any shame that comes with needing support by keeping this process as anonymous as possible.
Here is the Buff's Pantry Google form link for you to fill out with your needs:

We are in need of the following items if you have any spare stock in your home or wish to purchase items from our list:

Also, you can have your student drop these off at the main office or bring them to Mrs. Ogide's room (1-11). We will also be running donation drives throughout the year. Stay tuned!
Attendance
The safety and well-being of our students is of high priority. As such, the accurate monitoring of attendance is imperative to be able to account for students at all times. Please follow the procedures below.

- Please inform us of changes in home or work phone numbers.
- Absences that are not excused within 48 hours will require a Dean’s approval for changing an absence to “Excused.” ONLY 48 HOURS TO EXCUSE AN ABSENCE.
- If your student needs to be dismissed early from class, have him/her bring a note written by a parent or guardian to the Attendance Office prior to the start of the school day AND please send a Talking Points message. This is to help reduce disruptions in the classroom.
- Students who leave without following the above procedure may be marked “Unexcused.”
- In the event that a student becomes ill at school and needs to go home, he/she must either:

Financial Literacy
Smoky Hill Counselors are working with students to teach them financial literacy. Why is teaching financial literacy important? Financial literacy is essential for all students, regardless of their background or future career path. It equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of personal finance, make informed decisions, and achieve financial security. Below are hyperlinks to resources for parents:
About Naviance
Naviance is a web-based college and career planning platform that supports SHHS students in exploring their interests, researching colleges and scholarships, and preparing for life after high school. It also provides parents/guardians with access to resources that help them stay informed and actively support their student’s postsecondary planning.
Parents/guardians no longer need a separate username or password to access Naviance. Simply log in to my.cherrycreekschools.org, search for the Naviance Parent tile, and click to be directed to the parent view of your student’s Naviance account. If you have more than one student, you will be able to toggle between accounts.
If you previously used a Naviance Parent login, please disregard it and use this new, simplified access method instead.
The Importance of Campus Visits
Exploring campuses is a key step in your college or trade school journey. It’s not just about touring buildings—it’s about experiencing the environment, meeting the people, and discovering where you feel most at home. While many families choose to visit during summer or school breaks, there’s also great value in visiting while classes are in session. Doing so allows you to get a true sense of the energy, community, and day-to-day life on campus. Both options can help you decide which schools may be the best fit for you. To help you get started, we’ve included links to campus visit opportunities at colleges and universities across Colorado. You can also Click here for tips on how to get the most out of each visit. Wishing you the best as you explore your options.

- Freshmen and Sophomores are welcome to attend, but only during an off period.
Visit Details
- Each session typically lasts 20–30 minutes.
- The weekly schedule is emailed every Friday, and updated daily, by Ms. Marquita Millard, College & Career Specialist.
