Hello Centerview families!
We had more than 50 Centerview kindergarten students join us for Kinder Camp this week, and it has been great! Their curiosity and wonder as they experience these new beginnings is unmatched. Watching them interact with one another and our staff, explore their new learning environment, and engage in learning activities has been so much fun to see.
On top of that, we have welcomed new staff members to Centerview—teachers, paraprofessionals, nutrition services, and Learning Ventures child care. Each person brings an incredible sense of optimism and enthusiasm for their new role and is eager to meet and become part of our Centerview school community in the coming weeks.
There is already so much energy, excitement, and joy throughout Centerview as we prepare for the year ahead. It’s been FUN!
Centerview staff will all be back together next week and will be ready for our annual Meet and Greet with students and families on Wednesday, August 26, 4-6 p.m. Be sure to have your student(s) bring their school supplies and be ready to share and confirm your transportation plans.
As you likely know, every student at our school uses a school iPad. We want technology to support learning — not get in the way of it. As we get ready for a new school year, we have taken a closer look at how students use technology at school. One area we reviewed is video: what students can watch on school devices and how teachers use video in class. This includes blocking YouTube on all student devices in grades K-8.
You can find more information about what we’re doing with video in the Need to Know section of today’s newsletter. As the year gets started, you will hear more about how we use technology in our schools. We are looking at the tools we use and how they can best support student learning and help students build the technology skills they will need in the future. We are always happy to answer questions.
As you prepare for the new school year, please let us know if you have any questions or need clarification in the coming weeks.
Continue to enjoy your summer, and we will see you soon!

Headphones: Now part of the school technology kit
Starting this year, headphones will be included with the technology provided to students. Each student receives an iPad, iPad case, charger and wired headphones. This fall, students in first grade, fifth grade and ninth grade will turn in their old iPads and get a new kit - including headphones.
Many students already have a school technology kit and will not be getting a new iPad this year. If your student already has headphones they prefer to use with their school iPad, they can continue to use those. Students may bring their headphones to school during Meet and Greet along with other school supplies.
Students who need headphones will receive a set of wired headphones at school after the school year begins.
Approach to video at school, YouTube restrictions K-8
We want technology to support learning — not get in the way of it. As we prepare for the new school year, we have taken a closer look at how students use video at school and how teachers use it to support learning.
Here are three things to know:
- Grades K-8: YouTube is blocked on student devices: YouTube is blocked and not available at school or at home. Teachers still have access to YouTube. Students may watch a YouTube video from a teacher’s device when it is part of a lesson the teacher is guiding.
- Grades K-6: Students will not watch videos on their own. Teachers may use videos with the whole class. Students may pause to talk and think about what they are seeing. They may also take notes, draw pictures or respond to questions. Our goal is to make video an active part of learning, rather than something students simply watch.
- Grades 7-8: Students will have some opportunities to watch videos on their own. Many of our core resources include videos and are not linked to YouTube. At this age, students are learning how to use digital media responsibly and make good choices about what they watch. This gives students more independence as they get older and helps prepare them for the future.
Please reach out to your school’s main office or talk with us at an upcoming meet-and-greet event if you have questions.
Health office updates for back to school
- School medications: You are welcome and encouraged to bring in any necessary medications for your student to keep at school during next week's Meet and Greet. Our health office will be available to answer questions during this event. If you would like to drop off medications outside of Meet and Greet, please set up a time with our nurse, 763-600-5504.
- Immunizations and vaccines: Now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended immunizations. Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school. See our website for more immunization information.
- Peanut/nut aware classrooms: Spring Lake Park Schools implements peanut and nut-aware practices to protect students with severe allergies. Avoid sending snacks containing nuts or nut products and to ensure all snacks are pre-packaged for safety checks. Learn more about peanut/nut aware classrooms.
- Communicate illnesses: Update the school nurse if your child tests positive for a communicable illness such as flu, RSV (Respiratory Syncitial Virus), or COVID-19. The nurse will provide information on return to school. Keep your child home if they are sick.
- Communication home: Our school nurse will call home in case of serious illness or injury, or if consultation with a parent/guardian is needed. Many times, students can return to class after a brief rest or treatment from the nurse.
Nutrition Services: School meal updates for a new year
- Breakfast and lunch meals: Each student will continue to get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. View school lunch menus.
- Purchase of additional food items: During lunch, students have the option to purchase additional food items (second milk, extra entree, bottled water, etc.) if they have funds in their account. You can add funds to a meal account through Campus Parent Portal, or by sending cash or check with your child or directly to your school. If you do not want your student to purchase additional items, please complete this form and email it to foodservice@district16.org.
- Educational Benefits Application: Each year, we ask families to complete an Educational Benefits application. Many families are often surprised they qualify, and you could be eligible for many great benefits that help your student and our schools. Applications have arrived in family mailboxes. You can also learn more about Educational Benefits and apply online. Please note, if your family has already received an approval letter for the 2026-2027 school year, you do not need to re-apply for educational benefits.
