Academic Summer Workshops
College and Career 2026
One of our primary purposes as a school system is to prepare students for the paths they might take after high school. For those planning to attend college, the ACT is an important factor in admission and scholarship considerations at many colleges. Public universities in Tennessee require the ACT or SAT for both admission and scholarships. This summer we are once again offering credit classes to provide structure and guidance for students who wish to take time to work towards improving their score.
- The class is established to provide structure and guidance for you to improve. You will receive credit on your transcript for the class. Since this is a semester class that is condensed into a summer course, you will have a large amount of work to complete in a short time. There are four options to take the class: in person from June 1 – 12 from 8:00 to 12:00 weekdays at Franklin High; in person from June 15-29 from 8:00 to 12:00 weekdays at Franklin High; online June 1-12 supported with videos, office hour zooms, and the option to attend in person to get help; or online June 15-29 supported with videos, office hour zooms, and the option to attend in person to get help.
- If you attend in person, you would need to be present for each class meeting.
- If you attended online you would need to meet deadlines, but your day is flexible.
- There is a $25 fee to take the class plus you are expected to commit to taking two ACT tests on a national test date. This is in addition to the state tests that are offered during the school day in March of your junior year and October of your senior year. We ask that at least one of those tests should include a My Answer Key (MAK) so that you can get a copy of your test and answers from ACT. If you have already taken the ACT on a national test date, that could count as one of your obligated national tests. Students that are on fee waiver may qualify to have a voucher to cover the cost of your test. Reach out to your counselor if you need a test voucher. You would register for those tests on your own at ACT.org.
- I will get permission from your counselor for you to take the class. If you would like to enroll, please click here and I will check with your counselor and then send you the final enrollment link.

National Merit / SAT Workshops
Achieving National Merit status is a pathway to opportunities. There are multiple universities that provide full ride scholarships to National Merit Semi-Finalists. While the PSAT can be taken any year, the entryway to National Merit is the score achieved on the PSAT, which is also the National Merit Scholars Qualifying Test, in the junior year. We are providing opportunities for students to prepare for the PSAT and thereby also prepare for the SAT. The workshops listed are open to any WCS students with priority going to the students at the host school and rising juniors. They will focus on high achieving strategies that prepare students for the NMSQT and the SAT.
For those that want more information about the NMSQT / SAT workshops, we will have an information session on 9 April 2026 at 6:30 P.M. https://wcs.zoom.us/my/wcs.stephen.womack
