DCP-REDFORD 100% ATTENDANCE MATTERS DCP-REDFORD 100% ATTENDANCE MATTERS

THE EXPECTATIONS OF DCP-REDFORD'S DAILY ATTENDANCE

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Regular school attendance is essential to your child’s academic success and overall well-being. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Daily attendance matters. Students should arrive at school by 8:05 a.m. each day.
  • Chronic absenteeism can negatively impact academic achievement, graduation readiness, and overall success.
  • Excessive unexcused absences may result in truancy intervention and court proceedings as permitted under Michigan law.
  • In severe cases, persistent truancy may be considered educational neglect and may require review by the appropriate authorities.
  • School attendance may also affect eligibility for certain state-administered assistance programs, as determined by the appropriate agencies.
  • If your family is experiencing barriers to regular attendance, please contact the school immediately. We are here to partner with you and connect you with available resources and support.

Thank you for your partnership in ensuring your child attends school consistently and is prepared for success.

Sincerely,

Office of Student Attendance and Family Engagement
Michigan Department of Education

CITY OF DETROIT CURFEW FOR MINORS CITY OF DETROIT CURFEW FOR MINORS

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

The current City of Detroit youth curfew is:

  • Youth age 15 and younger: Must be off public streets and in public places by 10:00 p.m. and remain off them until 6:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult.
  • Youth ages 16–17: Must be off public streets and in public places by 11:00 p.m. and remain off them until 6:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult.

Exceptions

The curfew generally does not apply when a minor is:

  • Traveling to or from lawful employment.
  • Traveling to or from school-related activities.
  • Accompanied by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult.

Special Event Curfews

Detroit sometimes adopts temporary earlier curfews for major events. For example, during the 2026 Ford Fireworks, an emergency curfew required minors to be accompanied by an adult beginning at 8:00 p.m. in designated downtown areas.
