Secure Access At Namaqua

To continue keeping our school community safe, all parents, visitors, and volunteers are required to show a valid ID at the front door camera before entering the building. Please have your ID ready when you ring the buzzer so our office staff can verify your identity quickly and efficiently. You may be asked to present ID again to front office staff once you are in the building. Anyone entering the school beyond the front lobby will also be required to sign in and will be given a visitor or volunteer badge. These must be visible at all times while on campus.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a secure environment for all students and staff!

After-School Safety & Playground Reminders

We love seeing our school community stay, play, and connect after the final bell! To help keep every student safe, please remember that all children on the playground after dismissal must be directly supervised by a parent, guardian, or designated adult.

This safety expectation also applies to our 100 Mile Club runners! Students participating in 100 Mile Club must have an adult present on campus while they are actively logging their miles.

School staff will kindly ask any unsupervised students to head home or leave campus. Thank you so much for partnering with us to keep our grounds safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone!

Important Morning Drop-off & Safety Reminders

As we continue working together to keep our school community safe, smooth, and efficient every morning, we would like to share a quick reminder regarding our morning "Hug & Go" procedures and drop-off protocols.

Please review the following guidelines to help keep traffic moving and ensure all students arrive safely:

Bus Lane Safety: The front parking lot contains our designated bus lane for morning drop-off.
"Hug & Go" Drop-off Locations: Morning student drop-off is permitted in two areas:
- The back parking lot behind the school.
- The front parking lot ONLY AFTER all buses have departed from morning drop-off.
Front Parking Lot Sidewalk Access: If you drop off in the front lot after buses leave, please ensure your student exits the vehicle directly onto the sidewalk.
Drive-Thru Lane Protocol: When using the drive-thru lane, please pull all the way forward to keep the line moving. Drivers please remain in your vehicle.
Parking & Traffic Flow:
- Parents may park in the west parking lot or along Namaqua Avenue in designated areas.
- Do not park or drop off students in the red fire lanes.
- Please do not park in or block crosswalks.
- Please obey all stop signs, one-way signs, and traffic patterns—do not enter the parking lot going the wrong way.
- No U-turns are permitted on Namaqua Avenue.
Late Arrivals: Our morning start bell rings at 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM on Wednesday. Students arriving after 8:05 AM, 9:05 on Wednesday are considered tardy and must be accompanied to the front office by a parent or guardian to be checked in.

Thank you for your cooperation, patience, and commitment to keeping our school safety zones secure for everyone!

PBIS Night

A huge THANK YOU to all of our incredible families who joined us for PBIS Night! 🌟 It was wonderful seeing everyone explore our stations around the school, learn about how we use Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) every day, and gather some fun, easy ideas to try out at home. We appreciate your partnership, energy, and engagement! 💙

2nd Grade CogAT Testing

All second graders in TSD will be given the CogAT during the month of October. The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) measures both general and specific cognitive abilities: the ability to reason with words, mathematical concepts, and spatial/figural drawings. The test will be given in at least four sessions and makeups will be given for absent students. Any questions about the CogAT can be sent to Christine Davies, our Gifted teacher, at christine.davies@tsd.org.

Water Conservation at Namaqua

To conserve water and promote native landscaping, the Thompson School District replaced around 10,000 square feet of high-water Kentucky Bluegrass with low-water landscaping in front of Namaqua Elementary School. Designated walking paths and drop-off zones, an ADA-accessible picnic area, and a variety of native plants now welcome students and the community on the west side of the school’s entrance.

Korby Landscaping provided the essential elements of this project, including site preparation, compacted crusher-fines pathways, irrigation system adjustments, and all the plants. The project was funded through a combination of grants from Northern Water and the Colorado Water Conservation Board, as well as school and district funds. Detailed Landscape developed the design.

This space will continue to grow, providing year-round color and biodiversity for pollinators.

Learn more about water conservation and native landscaping at Namaqua Elementary School on its website.

Attendance

Celebration Time! 🎉 Recognizing Our September Positive Attendance Champions

We are thrilled to celebrate an outstanding achievement! For the month of September, 155 of our students met our Positive Attendance Goal by achieving 95% or higher attendance.

Showing up every day ready to learn takes dedication from both our students and their families, and we could not be prouder of their hard work and commitment.

To honor this accomplishment, each qualifying student is being awarded an official Positive Attendance Certificate. Even better? Each certificate includes a free ticket to an upcoming Colorado Rapids game this October! ⚽

Parents & Guardians: Please be sure to check your student’s backpack this Friday/weekend to find their certificate and claim their tickets.

Thank you for your continued partnership in making attendance a priority. Let’s keep this great momentum going into October!

October Attendance Challenge: Sweet Success Awaits!

We are thrilled to announce that Dairy Queen is officially sponsoring our October Attendance Challenge.

Supporting Strong School Attendance: A Guide for Families

Consistent school attendance supports students’ academic performance, social development, and future success. We understand that illness, emergencies, and family challenges happen. If you need support, please reach out. Every day matters - because when You’re Here Today, You’re Ready for Tomorrow!

What Families Can Do

Make school attendance a daily priority
Talk with your child about the importance of being in school
Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible
Communicate with the school when your child will be absent
Keep your contact information up to date so we can reach you

What the School Will Do

Take attendance daily and monitor student absences
Notify you if your child is absent and we have not heard from you
Share information about your child’s attendance record
Reach out if attendance patterns become a concern
Partner with you to support your child’s regular attendance
Provide help and resources if challenges arise

When Your Child Is Absent

For all absences, please contact the school as soon as possible to let us know:

The reason for the absence
When your child is expected to return

Absence types have been updated in Parent Portal to align with Board Policy. Documentation and/or principal approval is required for excusal of recurring treatment (ie, orthodontia, counseling), pre-arranged absences (ie, travel, preventative medical care), family emergencies, extended period for disability or disorder, and legal absences. Additional requirements may exist when students are habitually truant or chronically absent.

If Attendance Becomes a Concern

If your child begins to miss multiple days, we will:

Reach out to better understand what may be impacting attendance
Work with you to identify solutions and supports
Develop an Attendance Support Plan if needed

Our goal is to partner with you, not to assign blame; we understand that illness, emergencies, and family challenges happen.

We Are Here to Help

We understand that challenges can affect attendance. If your family needs support with:

Transportation
Mental or physical health concerns
School anxiety
Family or housing challenges

Please contact us. We will work together to find solutions.

Please use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to update your contact information for the new school year, or feel free to contact us with any questions.

For more information, see Board Policy JH/JHB and Exhibit.

100 Mile Club

Congratulations to Eddie D and Izzie C for hitting 10 miles already! Way to go! We will be placing our orders Friday, September 18th, so please send your payment and registration forms to the front office as soon as possible!

We are so close to reaching 50 members! Help us reach our goal by joining the fun and spreading the word about 100 Mile Club. Tell your friends and encourage them to sign up!

Thank you for your support!

What is the 100 Mile Club?

The club is an opportunity for students to run/walk at school with the goal of achieving 100 miles during the school year. This is not a competitive club and is open to students of all athletic abilities. Our membership in past years has included more than half of the Namaqua student body! The official “100 Mile Club” is an established program based on the following philosophy: “We believe that every single individual has the ability to achieve true personal success and a new level of physical fitness by accepting the challenge of running (or walking) 100 miles at school during a single school year. These feelings of true personal success and fitness are ones that will carry an individual to new levels of achievement in academics, athletics, and life”.

What is the commitment necessary to be a member?

There is no commitment! Your child can attend club runs whenever it fits into your family’s schedule. Students will accumulate miles at different rates, but all students will be awarded each time they hit a major milestone. It’s not a race, but rather a fun opportunity to focus on health and wellness! 100-Mile Club volunteers are not there to supervise children and staff are not present. Please ensure a parent or caregiver is present during all runs that the child is. If parents are not present and there are any issues, children will be asked to no longer participate. Please feel free to join your kids in walking or running whether you are registered or not.

When do we meet to run?

The final running schedule will be determined based on volunteer availability. We have done a combination of the following times in past years.

Before school 7:30 – 7:50 / after school 3:10 – 3:30 Wednesdays before school: 8:30 - 8:50 / after school 3:10 – 3:30

Once the volunteer schedule is finalized, we will release the running times.

Special weekends/holiday breaks/events – we may choose to designate certain days/events outside of school to count mileage. We will let you know in advance when these are and how to track them for mileage!

How do we join?

Send back the completed registration form to school along with your $15 registration fee. The sooner you are registered, the sooner we can start counting your miles! Write scholarship requests on the registration form in lieu of payment. If you would like to include a donation for other students, you may include that as well. We use the SportsYou app for communication so please join our app with the code RP4S-KFV9

KidsPak

KidsPak is a weekend hunger-relief program for students in the Thompson School District including Berthoud. KidsPak is made up entirely of community volunteers. NEARLY 1 IN 7 Colorado kids (14%) do not always know when or where they will get their next meal. NEARLY 1 IN 6 COLORADO HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN (16%) REPORT AN INABILITY TO AFFORD ADEQUATE FOOD. Our goal is to lower those statistics substantially. We partner with each school in the Thompson and Berthoud School District to provide much needed weekend food that meets the nutritional requirements from children.

You can sign up using the link below.
