Deepfakes: What To Watch For 👺
Deepfakes are hyper-realistic synthetic media generated by artificial intelligence—represent a significant shift in how we must consume digital content. While the technology has creative potential, it poses serious risks regarding misinformation, identity theft, and reputational harm. You should be particularly vigilant about unverified videos of public figures making controversial statements, as these are often designed to manipulate public opinion or stock markets. Additionally, be wary of unexpected video calls or voice messages from "friends" or "family" asking for urgent financial help, as AI can now clone voices and faces with frightening accuracy. To spot a deepfake, look for unnatural blinking patterns, lip-syncing errors where the audio doesn't quite match the mouth movements, or inconsistent lighting and shadows around the face.
1. Visual Red Flags
Unnatural Blinking: Pay close attention to the eyes. Deepfakes often blink too infrequently, too frequently, or in a way that doesn't look natural.
Lip-Syncing Errors: Watch the mouth carefully. Does the audio perfectly match the lip movements? Look for "glitches" where the lips seem to jump or blur.
Inconsistent Lighting: Check if the shadows on the face match the lighting in the background. Deepfakes often struggle to render realistic lighting interactions.
Skin Texture Issues: Look for skin that appears overly smooth (like plastic) or strangely pixelated, especially around the edges of the face and hair.
Facial Accessories: Deepfake algorithms often have trouble with glasses (look for glare moving unnaturally) or jewelry that seems to disappear or blur.
2. Audio Warning Signs
Robotic Cadence: Listen for a voice that sounds slightly metallic, flat, or has unnatural pauses between words.
Lack of Emotion: Does the tone of voice match the facial expression? Sometimes the voice sounds calm while the face looks angry, or vice versa.
Background Noise Mismatch: Be wary if the voice sounds like it was recorded in a studio (crystal clear) but the video takes place in a noisy environment (like a street or party).
3. Contextual Clues
Check the Source: Is the video from a verified account or a reputable news organization?
Reverse Image Search: Take a screenshot of the video and use a reverse image search tool (like Google Images or TinEye) to see if the original footage exists in a different context.

🚀 Elementary Chromebook Cart Leveling: Mission Accomplished! 💻✨
We are pleased to announce that the Technology Services team has completed the Chromebook leveling project at your campus. Our technicians are currently making rounds to check in and ensure a smooth transition.
💻 New Device Standards
To ensure consistency across the district, classrooms have been outfitted based on the following standards:
1st & 2nd Grade: Equipped with Touch Chromebooks.
3rd – 5th Grade: Equipped with Non-Touch Chromebooks.
Special Education: Documented SPED classrooms are supplied with Touch devices.
Mixed Grade Levels: Classrooms with a mix of grade levels are provided with Non-Touch devices.
🚫 Device Tracking & Movement
During this project, we learned a great deal about how devices travel throughout the campus. To help us support you efficiently, please do not transport devices between classrooms. Each room is now equipped with the specific quantity and type of device required. If a teacher is absent and a class must be split, there should be enough devices available using the provided spares. If necessary, please alternate computer use between the visiting students and your original class.
🔄 Spare Device & Repair Policy
All classrooms now have their maximum student device count plus 4 extra devices.
The "Don’t Wait" Rule: Please submit a ticket as soon as a device breaks. Do not wait until all four spares are out of commission. This ensures we can replace the unit before you run out of backups.
Ticket Details: To speed up repairs, please include the
Room Number
Cart Asset Tag
Device Asset Tag
Description of the issue (ie. won’t power on, keys missing, screen damaged, camera not showing an image)
This helps us ensure we bring the correct device type (Touch vs. Non-Touch) on the first visit.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our classroom technology organized and ready for student use! Thank you for everything you do for our students! 🌟
💻 Tech on the Move: Primary School Chromebook Checkout Carts Have Arrived!
We are excited to share that our new Chromebook Checkout Carts are officially rolling out! After a successful launch in our Primary Schools, we are now heading to our Elementary Schools. Our goal is to have this entire project completed for each school by the end of February.
These carts are located right in your school library. They are designed to ensure Paraprofessionals have the tools they need for daily duties and that students—especially our homebound learners—have access to a device for homework.
📋 Check-Out Quick Guide
For Students: Tracking is Key
Check-out Required: Yes! All student check-outs must be documented in iiQ and assigned to a Student ID.
Why: This is critical for accountability and tracking should a device go missing.
For Paraprofessionals: Grab and Go
Check-out Required: No formal check-out is needed if the device is returned to the cart daily.
The Rules: Use is strictly for on-campus duties during school hours. If you need a permanent, dedicated device for your role, please contact Technology Services to make a separate arrangement.
⚡ The "Golden Rules" of the Cart
📍 Stay Put: The cart lives permanently in the library—please don't move it!
🔋 The 100% Rule: All devices must return to the cart daily for charging unless a student has it checked out via iiQ.
🏷️ Label Love: Please do not remove any identification labels from the Chromebooks or the cart itself.
🔌 Charger Care: Students taking a device home may check out a charger a designee on campus. Remember: the charger must return with the device. Missing gear will result in a replacement fee.
🛠️ Support & Accountability
Monthly Roll Call: Technology Technicians will perform a monthly inventory check to ensure all 30 devices are accounted for.
Oops! Something Broke? If a device is damaged, please report it immediately!
Call: Dial the Help Desk at 56263.
Ticket: Enter a support ticket via your District Bookmarks in Chrome.

🔌 Coming Soon: A Faster, Cleaner Network Experience!
We are excited to share that a major "behind-the-scenes" technology upgrade is coming to your campus! We are officially swapping out our older Cat 6 wiring for brand-new Cat 6A cabling. Think of this as upgrading our school’s digital "information highway" to a much wider, faster lane to support all your teaching and learning needs.
📍 Where is the Upgrade Happening?
We will be rolling out these improvements at the following locations:
Nimitz 9th/ HEAL Nimitz HS
Nimitz HS
Davis HS
Davis 9th
Eisenhower 9th
Aldine 9th
MacArthur 9th
Greenspoint ES
Cypresswood ES
Hall Success Academy
Knippel Education Center
🖥️ Enhancements to Your Classroom
We are streamlining how your room connects to the network to make your workspace more efficient. Each classroom will receive specific "network drops" (wall outlets):
Future Wall-Mounted Phones: We are adding a network drop on the wall specifically for phone mounting. Please note that we are not wall-mounting current phones at this time due to limited hardware; these locations are being prepared for future phone upgrades.
Teacher Desk Access: A reliable connection located right by your desk.
Stronger Wi-Fi: A dedicated connection for a Network Access Point to ensure consistent wireless signals for everyone.
✨ Network Closet Transformation
Our network closets (the rooms housing our tech gear) are getting a complete makeover! We are replacing long, tangled cords with short, streamlined cables.
Why this matters:
Aesthetics & Space: The closets will be much more organized and take up less room.
Faster Troubleshooting: Tidy cabling makes it much easier for our tech team to trace and resolve issues, meaning less downtime for you and your students.
We are committed to providing a modern, reliable environment for our staff and students!
