October Newsletter
Message From the Principal
Hello Silver Firs community,
The first month of school has come to a close and now we are entering October. Whereas September includes a great deal of setting expectations, getting to know each other, and determining where we are academically; October finds us better able to get into the rhythm of school. We start to have more consistency in our day-to-day or week-to-week routines. This is especially true for our third and fourth graders, who have now settled into their classroom placements. We know these shifts required flexibility from families, and we are so grateful for your patience and understanding. The addition of another classroom brings much-needed breathing space and opportunities for greater teacher support. With that, we would like to welcome Mr. Duvvuri to our Silver Firs team. Prior to following his dream of becoming a teacher, he was a scientist and team leader with expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology. His life experience leading Cub Scout troops and helping to coach baseball and softball, helped him see that where he wanted to be was in a place where he could inspire and support kids day in and day out. We are truly lucky to have him joining us this year!
Thank you to the families who joined us for our Curriculum Night last week. The aim of the evening was to provide families with a chance to walk in your child’s shoes. Where do they spend their hours at school? What does learning look like in 2026? By September 30th, you should have received information from your child’s teacher regarding the content/topics they will be learning this year. What is harder to put into writing is what that looks and feels like. We hope you felt connected and were able to experience the adventure of learning at Silver Firs alongside your child(ren) that evening.
Save the date on your calendar for Fall conferences which will be held November 2nd and 3rd (Monday and Tuesday). During these dates, students do not have class, as teachers spend both days meeting with families to discuss progress, set goals, and partner together. These conversations allow families to gain insight into their child's academic progress, social development, and classroom experience, while also providing teachers with your valuable perspective on your child's strengths, interests, and needs outside of school. Watch for sign-up information coming towards the end of the month from your child's teacher. When signing up, please let your child's teacher know if you need any accommodations such as Zoom meetings, interpreters, or if you'd like additional people to attend.

Drop-off and Pick-up
Drop-off and pick-up procedures have been a topic of interest these past few years, so Dr. Haule and I wanted to observe how things were going before sharing specific guidelines. We've seen wonderful courtesy in the parking lot—slow speeds, respectful parking, and careful attention to safety. Thank you!
I am fully on board with using common sense guidelines to keep all of us safe. Most families are already doing these things (thank you!), so we're publishing them to reinforce what's working well:
Drive slowly through the parking lot. Children can be unpredictable—even when they know the rules—so please drive with the expectation that someone might step out at any moment.
You may park in any open spot that you can safely enter and exit, including the first row near Kiss-and-Go. Please be mindful of your vehicle's size and turning radius—if entering or exiting a spot would block the Kiss-and-Go lane, please choose a different spot.
In the Kiss-and-Go lane, drivers, please stay in your car. If you need to get out of your car to get your child to their line, please park in a designated spot.
We have limited crossing guards, so the parking lot crosswalk may not always be staffed (we prioritize the street crossings first). When possible, please cross in groups—this makes pedestrians more visible to drivers and keeps traffic flowing smoothly.
As mornings get darker, crossing in groups at the designated crosswalk becomes even more important. When pedestrians cross at one predictable location, drivers can better anticipate and watch for you.
Thank you for supporting these efforts to keep our morning/afternoon routines efficient and safe.
Notes from the Front Office
Transportation Changes:
In the event of same day after school transportation plan changes, please call the front office at least one hour before dismissal. Be sure to speak to an office secretary, since emails and voicemails may not make it to the teacher in time.
Attendance Reporting:
Absences can be reported in 1 of 3 ways - ParentVue, email (sfeattendance@everettsd.org), or leaving a message on our attendance line (425.385.6505).
If your child sees a doctor for illness or an appointment, please request a medical note to submit to the attendance office. These absences may be coded as medically excused.
If travel during the school year is unavoidable, families must submit a prearranged absence request to be approved by the Principal or Assistant Principal. The form can be found here or there are paper versions in the office.
More information regarding attendance can be found on our website here.

Natural Leaders
We are a Multicultural Parent Group that supports families who may face language and cultural barriers. Through the work of our Natural Leaders, we build strong relationships with families, promote inclusion, and ensure that all families feel valued, connected, and heard within their school community.
We are always looking for new families to join our group to continue growing and strengthening our support network. By working together, we create a connection between home and school, support our children's educational journey, and create opportunities for families to make a meaningful impact on their school community.
We are very happy to be joined by new and returning families at Silver Firs Elementary School. We recognize that when families are represented and have more presence at their schools, children achieve their highest potential.
