We encourage all families to stay connected and actively engaged in their child's learning.
β° Attendance Matters: On Time. Every Time. Every Day.
As we continue strengthening our schoolwide expectations and protecting instructional time, I want to remind families that W.G. Sanders Middle School has a Tardy Policy in effect.
This policy addresses students arriving late to class throughout the instructional day after they have already arrived at school.
Every minute of instruction matters. When students arrive late to class, they miss valuable learning opportunities and disrupt the instructional environment for their classmates.
Our progressive response to class tardiness is as follows:
1st Tardy: Warning
2nd Tardy: Warning and student conference
3rd Tardy: Required parent contact
4th Tardy: Parent conference with a tardy plan
5th Tardy: Half-day In-School Suspension (ISS)
6th Tardy: Full-day In-School Suspension (ISS)
7th Tardy or More: Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)
Our goal is not simply to address tardiness through consequences, but to help students develop responsibility, self-management, and respect for instructional time.
Please reinforce with your child the importance of moving promptly between classes, following staff directions, and arriving prepared to learn.
Our expectation is simple: Be Here. Be Ready. Be Respectful.
π Show Your Tiger Pride! W.G. Sanders Spirit Wear Shop Is Open!

π€ School Improvement Council (SIC) β Parent Nominations Are Open!
We are currently accepting parent nominations for our School Improvement Council (SIC)!
The SIC is an important opportunity for families to have a meaningful voice in the continuous improvement of W.G. Sanders Middle School. Council members work collaboratively with school leadership and other stakeholders to review school needs, discuss improvement priorities, and support efforts that strengthen student achievement and the overall school experience.
I believe strongly that the best schools are built through authentic partnerships with families and the community. We want parents who are willing to share their perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, offer ideas, and help us continue moving Sanders forward.
If you are interested in serving or would like to nominate another parent or guardian, please complete the SIC Parent Nomination Form shared with this newsletter in the SIC section below.
Your voice matters, and we welcome your involvement!
π World Day of Bullying Prevention β Monday, October 5
As a reminder, we will also recognize World Day of Bullying Prevention on Monday, October 5.
We encourage students and staff to wear blue to demonstrate our commitment to kindness, respect, inclusion, and creating a safe and supportive school community.
Even during our Homecoming celebrations, we want to reinforce an important message: Every Golden Tiger deserves to feel valued, respected, and connected to our school.
Wear Blue. Be Kind. Stand Together.
π Looking Ahead: College Awareness Week (October 12β16)
Next week, we will celebrate College Awareness Week with activities designed to help students begin exploring opportunities beyond high school.
Our theme is EXPLORE β’ LEARN β’ PLAN β’ ACHIEVE, and students will have opportunities to learn about colleges, HBCUs, technical colleges, career pathways, and the importance of developing strong academic habits and goals.
It's never too early for students to begin dreaming about their future and understanding the connection between what they do in middle school and where they want to go in life!
π― Closing Thoughts
Golden Tiger Families, we have much to celebrate and much to accomplish this week!
As we wrap up the first quarter, I want to thank you for your continued support, communication, and partnership. We are working intentionally to create a school where students experience high expectations, meaningful learning, positive relationships, and opportunities to grow both inside and outside the classroom.
I ask that you continue having conversations with your children about their academic progress, attendance, behavior, and goals. Our students are capable of incredible things, and when school and home work together with shared expectations, we create the conditions for them to succeed.
Let's finish the first quarter strong, enjoy Homecoming Week, and continue building a culture of excellence at W.G. Sanders!
One School. One Team. One Roar. GO TIGERS! π―π€π

Act 204- Must Read! (links below)π
Act 204
This year, it is especially important that families understand the impact of South Carolina's Act 204 on student grades. Under the new law, minimum grades or βgrade floorsβ are no longer permittedβstudents receive the grades they actually earn. Additionally, eligibility for content or credit recovery requires students to demonstrate substantial participation by completing at least 80% of graded assignments in a timely manner.
The message for our Golden Tigers is simple: Every assignment matters. Every project matters. Every quiz and test matters. Every day matters.
Please encourage your student to complete and submit assignments on time, study for assessments, monitor grades, attend school consistently, and ask for help before they fall behind. Families should also regularly check PowerSchool, review missing assignments and zeros, and communicate with teachers early when concerns arise.
Attendance Matters Every Day!
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibilityβessential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
