2026 GOOCHLAND READS

We hope everyone has been enjoying the 2026 Goochland Reads book selection!

Goochland Reads is a community-wide reading initiative that brings neighbors together through a shared story and meaningful conversation. Not only will students and their families be reading this book, but also teachers, bus drivers, custodians, and all GCPS elementary school employees!

This year’s selection explores themes of friendship, courage, overcoming challenges, and discovering what truly makes a place feel like home - offering something for readers of all ages to reflect on and discuss.

Be sure to keep up with the reading because we will be having daily trivia questions on the morning announcements!

We invite everyone in Goochland to read along and be part of this shared experience.

Happy reading!

Attendance

We are excited to recognize students with perfect attendance so far this school year! This week, we will be celebrating students who have shown a strong commitment to showing up each day ready to learn. Regular attendance plays an important role in academic success, and we truly appreciate your partnership in making this possible.

At the same time, we want to thank families for making thoughtful decisions about keeping students home when they are sick. Prioritizing health helps keep our entire school community safe and ready to learn. We value both strong attendance and responsible care for students’ well-being.

Share Your Child’s Artistic Talents!

On April 23rd, our school will come together to celebrate the creativity of our students with a family themed art event! We invite you to send digital photos of your child engaged in any form of art—singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, painting, drawing, acting, or any other artistic expression.

These submissions will be featured on a bulletin board in our hallway to showcase the amazing talents in our school community.

If you would like to participate, email your files to our School Librarian, Susan Vaughan: svaughan@glnd.k12.va.us by March 13th.

*Please send no more than a maximum of 2 photos per student.

Thank you for helping us highlight the creativity and imagination of our students. We can’t wait to see all the incredible artists!
