A message from Superintendent Malley A message from Superintendent Malley

Dear Haslett Families,

In collaboration with all Ingham ISD Superintendents, I want to share an important update about a school funding issue at the state level that could affect students, staff, and programs at Haslett Public Schools as well as the entire region. It is important that you are aware of the potential challenges ahead. I encourage you to read the full letter and consider reaching out to your elected officials to share why stable, protected school funding matters to your family and to Haslett.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Malley

Pathways for Success Pathways for Success

This fall has been an exciting time to share school experiences, enjoy extra-curricular activities, and grow as learners and thinkers at the high school.

HHS has a “high expectations, high support” philosophy. In the classroom, staff use a variety of instructional strategies and activities to engage learners in the material. Teachers make themselves available to students for extra help and provide supplementary resources to support students as they work on homework and projects. Our National Honor Society offers free tutoring in the media center after school Monday - Thursday as an extra support as well. The counseling staff has been meeting with our seniors to make sure each student has a plan after high school. Our building leadership team continues to monitor students’ progress towards graduation and offer encouragement and develop plans for improvement with students who need a boost. We can also refer families to resources outside of the district that may be helpful (tutoring, food and clothing, mental health support). We value each and every student and endeavor to provide them an avenue to success.

Families often wonder how to help their teenager with school, since the course content can be complex. However, there is a lot that you can do. Encourage effort, even when it’s hard, and using the many resources available. Talk about managing social media and screen time as a way to support overall wellness. Promote kindness, empathy, and caring for others. Celebrate successes and finding joy in learning. Ask questions and listen, even if it takes a while for a silent teenager to respond. What you do makes a difference, and we value the partnership with our students and families.

-Stephanie Livingston, High School Associate Principal

Building Safer Schools Through Family Partnership Building Safer Schools Through Family Partnership

In alignment with Strategic Plan Pillar 2 (Student Safety and Wellness), Priority 1 (Safe Learning Environments), we are establishing a systematic community-driven approach to enhancing safety across all district schools.

This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to ongoing improvement and meaningful family partnership in ensuring safe learning environments for every student.

Our Approach

We will engage the community through a three-level approach.

  1. District-Wide Survey: Coming soon! Students, families, staff, and community members will provide input on safety concerns, current measures, and priorities. This will establish baseline data and identify trends.
  2. Focus Groups: Small group sessions with diverse representatives will delve deeper into survey findings, provide context, and generate solution ideas through collaborative discussion.
  3. Student Safety Task Force Analysis: A representative task force of students, staff, families, emergency responders, and mental health professionals will review all findings and current research to develop actionable recommendations.

Get Involved

Your voice matters in making our schools safer.

  • Express Interest in Joining the Task Force
  • Sign Up for a Focus Group

Haslett Viking Marching Band Haslett Viking Marching Band

This year, the Viking Marching Band is proud to present our 2025 halftime show: “1, 2, Ready, Go!” – a dynamic musical journey that blends classic rock, 80s pop, country flair, and Broadway into one unforgettable performance. Our show features the following songs: 25 or 6 to 4, 99 Red Balloons, 9 to 5 and One Day More.

On September 12, we are excited to invite our 8th grade band members to participate with the Viking Marching Band halftime show. Together, they will be performing “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World and “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift. Concluding the halftime show, both bands will celebrate our Vikings by playing the Fight Song.

The Viking Marching Band will be joining bands from across the state in the 71st Central Michigan University Band Day hosted by the Chippewa Marching Band. Students have an opportunity to be mentored by members of the Chippewa Marching Band and will perform together during the halftime show.

On October 8, the Viking Marching Band will be performing at the Grand Ledge Marching Invitational. Marching bands from across the area perform their field show every 15 minutes. Each band is critiqued on their marching style, musical performance, color guard performance and percussion performance. To close out the event, the Spartan Marching Band showcases their pre-game along with their halftime performance.

We invite you to come out and support the Marching Band at each home performance. Go Vikings!
