Tiger Talk
09/16/25

From Growth to Greatness
Driven by Pride. Strengthened by Resilience. Led by Heart.
Dear WCHE Families,
We look forward to seeing you this Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in our Tiger Café for our General PTO Meeting. We are especially excited to welcome Dr. Null as our guest speaker—you won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear from him!
As a reminder, student drop-off is between 7:20 and 7:39 a.m. This window ensures that our Tigers are settled and ready to begin class promptly at 7:40. If your child needs breakfast, please plan to drop them off closer to 7:20 so they have plenty of time to eat and transition smoothly into the day. Arriving during this window helps set the tone for success and minimizes disruptions to learning.
Looking ahead, please note that Monday, September 22, is a Student Holiday/Teacher Professional Development Day. There will be no school for students on this day, so please plan accordingly.
Warmly,
Amy Russ, Principal

Sample of Tiger Art
Ms. Andrea Enriquez Martinez
Thank you, Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Enriquez!
Tigers owe much of their artistic abilities to our art teacher, Ms. Dunn, and our art aide, Ms. Enriquez. The hallways of West Cypress Hills are a testament to their talent, for that is where we display our Tiger art from our Tiger art classes.
Thanks for being PAWSitive
Tigers demonstrating PAWSitive behavior are nominated to have their names added to our WOW Board. WOW Board members are then eligible to win a fun brag tag and Buddy Pass. The Buddy Pass entitles each WOW Board member to enjoy lunch on the stage with a buddy of his/her choice.
The photo above is of our WOW Board #2 for the 2025-2026 school year. The photo below is of our WOW Board #3, with special guest Mr. Cluck from our local TXB store. Thanks, TXB, for supporting our Tigers, and thanks, Mr. Cluck, for coming to present special prizes to our WOW Board.
Congratulations, Tigers!

Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians:
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via:
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT in their previous district, should submit their Google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator.
Parents can submit referrals for screening through the entire first 9-weeks, with a deadline of October 16, 2025. Students in Grades 1-5 will be tested during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline (October 16,) the student will have to wait until the next year's screening opportunity, as the spring screening session is only for students who have transferred to the district after the fall testing window is closed.
Kindergarten students can be referred for GT testing beginning in January 2026. More details will be shared regarding this process at the beginning of the 2nd semester.
The forms and further information about the program can be found here. Once the request is submitted through the appropriate Google form, our campus GT coordinator, Erin Wyatt, will contact parents via email after October 16 to share pertinent information.
The district will host a virtual parent meeting on September 19 at 11:30 am to share information regarding the program and the elementary G/T referral process. Join the meeting HERE. You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator, Erin Wyatt, at any time with questions.
Thank you for reporting dismissal changes in Smart Tag!

Did you know?
Missing 10% of learning time, about 2 days each month, over the course of a school year can make it harder to
- gain early reading and math skills
- build relationships
- develop good attendance habits.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in elementary so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important.
As we look ahead to the next school year please keep in mind our long weekends/student holidays.
