Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hello, Families,

What a week celebrating Start with Hello! THANK YOU to the fantastic volunteers who helped welcome students each morning and start their days with smiles and encouragement. The students loved seeing each other wearing the daily themes. A special shout out to Leslie Cellar, school counselor, for her coordination. Keep an eye out in next week's newsletter for a slide show of photos from this week!

WE OFFICIALLY HAVE 100% OF OUR BUILDING'S EMAS/PARENT PORTALS COMPLETED IN INFINITE CAMPUS. THAT'S INCREDIBLE. Thank you for taking the time to give the most up to date information. Having a full building be completed within the first month of school has to be a record!

This Week's Questions Around the Dinner Table:

-What was your favorite theme day (shirt) from the week? Did anything surprise you about morning greeters and visitors (OSU drum major, Crew Cat, high school athletes, inflatable parade, etc.)

-What are some reasons you or some classmates received Safe, Helpful, and Caring tickets this week?

Have a great weekend.

Sharon Suriano

Principal

Did you know... "Students with involved parents consistently earn higher grades and test scores across all subjects. Family engagement has positive effects on student achievement.”

— Henderson, A. T., & Mapp, K. L. (2002). A New Wave of Evidence: The Impact of School, Family, and Community Connections on Student Achievement. Southwest Educational Development Laboratory."

Parent-Teacher Conferences are 3:00-7:00, Thursday, September 25th and Wednesday, October 1st. Each classroom teacher has shared a sign-up. If you have not already, please sign up for a time to learn more about your child, ask questions, and connect more with your child's teacher. We can't wait to have you!

HAVE YOU..... HAVE YOU.....

Taken the pledge?...Take the Pledge!

If you have not done so already, this weekend would be a great opportunity to take the pledge as a family. Students AND parents can all take the pledge.

Together, we can help every child “stay in the game” by making attendance and arriving on time a priority.

Lions Locker is an anonymous pantry located at Gahanna Lincoln High School. They provide food, toiletries, school supplies and other basic necessities to PreK-12 students of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.

If your family is in need of these basic items please reach out to Mrs. Cellar, School Counselor (cellarl@gjps.org) and she will work with Lions Locker as well as other local organizations to support your family through these need based programs.

School Absences School Absences

If your child is going to be absent from school, please email Ms. McFadden at mcfaddene@gjps.org AND email your student's teacher. Or, you may call to notify the school office attendance line at 614-478-5580 prior to 8:00 a.m.

As a result of House Bill 410, student attendance is calculated in hours. This includes absences that have been identified as both excused and unexcused by the school, as well as planned absences. Being late or tardy to school does calculate into the total hours absent.

Medical excuses from a doctor can be submitted to Emily McFadden, our school secretary, through email (mcfaddene@gjps.org) or sending in a paper copy.
