News from Dr. E

Happy October!

We will be finishing first quarter soon. We are in the sweet spot of learning! I would encourage you to continue setting routines and having time to share about your child's day. One of the best things you can do as a family is to read together. If you read together five minutes a day, that would be 1,825 minutes a year.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming soon. We will be sharing positives, assessments, progress, and potentially areas of growth. One of the best strategies is to have a conference with your student prior to conferences. Here is some great conversation starters:

  • What is going well?
  • What do you notice different about learning this year?
  • Will there be any surprises?
  • What are your goals?
  • How can I support you this year when you are home?

We will be having shorter conferences due to only having two evenings. Don't worry - we are available to you. I would ask that you keep in mind that once teachers leave school, they probably won't be looking at Class DoJo or email. You can expect a response the next day. We want our teachers to be able to have boundaries and be with their families at night.

If you have positives, suggestions, or questions please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or me.

Educationally,

Dr. Tami Eshleman

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Cody Elementary raised $1939.17. We were 3rd in the district in fundraising. What makes us proud is this was not a result of a large donation, this was a result of small change everyday! Families discussing the benefits of giving to their school. Here are the top classes:

  • Mrs. Petska - $365.18
  • Mrs. Stumf - $346.45
  • Mrs. Cooper - $276.75.

Cody will use these funds for PBIS Rewards, Family Activities and Field Day.

Cody PACT Cookie Dough Sales have been used to purchase new playground equipment, family events, staff appreciation, and coming soon - NEW SIGN!

Attendance

North Platte Public Schools believes in the importance of children being in school. Cody Elementary will be monitoring building, grade, classroom, and individual student's attendance. We are gifted with prizes for students who maintain less than Five or More Absences. We also recognize students with Perfect Attendance. So far. . . this is how August attendance has been.

  • Perfect Attendance: 147 Students
  • Total Absences: 103 Absences

If your child will not be in school, please call the office before 8:00am. If students are seen by a medical professional, please provide a note to the office. Students who miss more than 10 days are required to have an Attendance Meeting with Principal and Parents. As required by state statute, student who are chronically absent will have a referral sent to the County Attorney.

Students who have a temperature above 100* will be sent home and will not be able to return until they have been fever free for 24 hours.

Cody Elementary Breakfast, Lunch and Snack

Cody Elementary participated in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP). CEP schools provide free breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks to schools. We are fortunate to provide this resource to families. If students bring their own lunch and want to buy a milk, they must bring $0.50. Some students want to have a second entrée, parents would have to provide funds for additional entrées.

We are excited to have the Salad Bar back at Cody. The Salad Bar has several options for students to get fresh fruits and vegetables.
