Safety Superstars: Murphy & Ralya 5th Graders Leading the Way! Safety Superstars: Murphy & Ralya 5th Graders Leading the Way!

Fifth grade safeties

Have you noticed some extra helpful faces around Murphy and Ralya Elementary? They're not teachers, but they're definitely making a difference! We're talking about the incredible 5th Grade Safety Patrol!

This dedicated group of students has volunteered their time and energy to help keep our school community safe. These young leaders play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and secure environment for everyone.

So, what exactly do our Safety Patrol members do? They're involved in a variety of important tasks, including:

  • Sidewalk Safety: Helping students walk safely to buses and navigate the parking lot before and after school.

  • Hallway Helpers: Keeping hallways clear and organized, especially during busy transition times. They assist with maintaining a safe and orderly flow of students.

  • Building Buddies: Lending a hand wherever needed, promoting safety and responsibility throughout the school.

These 5th graders rotate through different assignments throughout the year, giving them a chance to experience various aspects of school safety. This not only benefits the entire school but also provides the Safety Patrol members with valuable leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. “Our job is important especially for the younger kids like second graders who may not know all of the rules yet,” says Zach, Ralya safety. When asked about his role as a safety, Ian, fifth grader at Murphy said, "I feel like safeties can stop kids from getting hurt by making them slow down and not rough-house. Keeping people safe feels really good!"

The Safety Patrol program is entirely voluntary, demonstrating the commitment and character of these outstanding students. They are truly role models for their peers, showing what it means to be a responsible and caring member of our school community. “Being a Safety Patrol member is setting an example for others. Really, all fifth graders are examples in our school!” added Nora.

We want to give a huge thank you to our incredible 5th Grade Safety Patrol members at both Murphy and Ralya Elementary! Their dedication and hard work make our schools a safer and better place for everyone. Next time you see them in their bright vests, be sure to give them a high five and a thank you for their service!

We are so proud of these Safety Superstars!
