Hyatt's October Updates
Thank you for your continued support in getting the school year off to such a strong and positive start. Your partnership is truly making a difference—not just in our daily routines, but in the overall growth and development of our school community. Working together, we are creating an environment where our children can thrive, and where we, as educators and families, grow stronger together.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to offer even more opportunities for our students to engage in enriched learning experiences, meaningful community service, and fun, family-centered events. We’re grateful for the ongoing support from our incredible school community and our dedicated PALS group, whose efforts help bring these opportunities to life. Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming announcements and event details. This month’s updates are outlined below, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Every Child Every Day
October 16th - Half Day of School
Our fall parent teacher conferences are being held on Thursday, October 16th. Please contact your child's teacher to schedule a time to meet and discuss their progress. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, develop shared understanding, and collaborate around your child's success.
October 23rd - Picture Retakes
In case you missed Picture Day, Picture Retakes are scheduled at Hyatt on Thursday, October 23rd.
Attendance Matters!
Although school attendance may occasionally be impacted by family obligations, vacations, and seasonal illness, attendance remains the most critical factor in school success. While we will continue to celebrate and encourage "family time," please keep school attendance a priority for your children. Developing routines and embedding expectations at a young age lends itself to improved health and success. Not to mention, we love to see your children every day as they add to discussions, strengthen each other's thinking and learning, and are part of the essence that makes Hyatt Elementary special!
Halloween Planning
It's hard to believe we are already planning for Halloween! Below are a few tidbits to help keep everyone in the loop regarding expectations and activities for Friday, October 31st. Please contact your child's teacher or the office with any questions.
- Children may wear their costumes to school.
- Face paint dries out the skin and will likely become an irritant as the day progresses, so it is recommended that you save this portion of the costume for trick-or-treating at home.
- Leave any "weapon like" accessories at home.
- Teachers will communicate information about their individual parties. Please only send in store bought treats due to possible food related allergies
- The Costume Parade will begin at 2:45 PM. Families are welcome to come and take pictures of their child. If you decide to take your child home afterwards, please make sure you stop by the office first to sign them out. The weather will determine our parade route, which will be shared closer to the 31st.
Student Drop Off and Pickup Procedures
We appreciate everyone's patience, ideas, and support as we have made several adjustments to address the traffic during student drop off and pick up times. Hopefully, you are noticing the differences as well, as we are consistently able to load the children safely and efficiently within five minutes of our best times from last year. Due to the sheer numbers of vehicles, there will always be a delay, but we remain committed to evaluating and adjusting accordingly.

News from Officer Williams
Halloween is just around the corner and it is an exciting time for children across our community. If you are planning on an evening of trick or treating, I would encourage you to discuss your expectations to help you all have a safe and enjoyable time together. Here are a few tips that you may want to consider before you head out:
- Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as close to the curb as possible.
- Look left, right and left again when crossing the street.
- Have your child carry a glow stick or flashlight to help them see and be seen.
- Put electronic devices down. Keep your head up and walk; don’t run across the street.
- Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape
- Only go to houses with porch lights on and NEVER GO INSIDE.
- Parents should inspect all treats before the children eat them.
News from Nurse Loynes
Nurse Danielle Loynes is hard at work keeping the children of Hyatt Elementary safe and healthy every day. From caring for little injuries to managing health plans, she’s always here to support our students and help them thrive!
Health and Wellness
We are beginning to approach the cold and flu season, so please remind your children the importance of washing their hands, trying to keep their hands off their faces, covering their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and not sharing their food with others. These are proven strategies to reducing the spread of illness. Remember, a child with a fever or who is physically ill must stay home for at least 24 hours and be symptom free without medication before returning to school.
Also, as classroom parties are on the horizon, please remain cognizant of student allergies in your child’s classroom. Due to the severity of the reactions to some allergies we ask that all snacks, treats, are store purchased. If your child exhibits any symptom, you will be called to pick your child up from school.
Visitors and Volunteers
Passes for visitors and volunteers are available in the office and provided once you have signed-in and should be worn at all times. This supports identification and supports building supervision. Appointments may be initiated by the parent or guardian and/or the school.
Volunteering at Hyatt Elementary is encouraged, as your time and efforts are greatly appreciated! All volunteers must have a background check completed before they may volunteer. If you are wanting to volunteer, you can pick up an ICHAT form in the office or click on the link below. Forms must be competed for each semester of the school year. Please remember photographs of other children are not permitted. If you have any questions or concerns, please share them with a staff member.
Communications and Alerts
Hyatt Elementary utilizes our website as a means of communication. Please visit our web page regularly at www.lindenschools.org. In addition to our web page, you can download the Linden Community Schools APP from your smartphone to receive updates and reminders. We will also use email and text messaging. You may contact your child’s teacher by email, telephone, or letter if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education or classroom activities.
