Dear School Administrator and School Safety and Security Coordinator Colleagues,

As this new year begins, we wanted to make you aware of some updated resources related to additional School Safety and Security Coordinator duties that were added to the PA Public School Code under Act 47 of 2025.

PCCD’s webpage listing School Safety and Security Coordinator Duties was updated to reflect the new requirements for holding school safety and security meetings with school and building leadership, attendance reporting for those meetings, and annual meetings with school employees for input on school safety and security training. Additional details on the information required for the annual report was also added to this page.
The School Safety and Security Coordinator Legal Guide on the Act 55 training and resource webpage has been updated to reflect the provisions of Act 47 of 2025.
Presentation materials on the Act 47 of 2025 updates as well as 2024-2025 aggregate data on school mental health have also been posted on the School Safety and Security Committee webpage.

As always, appointment of school administrators as new School Safety and Security Coordinators should be reported to the Committee through the School Safety and Security Coordinator Contact Information form. Newly appointed Coordinators have 1 year from their date of appointment to complete required training.

As you are aware, our first annual statewide School Safety and Security Conference is scheduled to take place this March. This conference is being powered by PAIU and the collection of 29 Intermediate Units around the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We have some outstanding keynote speakers and breakout sessions planned for you. There will be presentations on physical security, mental health, and cyber information. State-level players will be in attendance, including our Attorney General’s office, PA State Police, and PCCD. Our promotional materials are attached. We have worked to make this impactful and affordable. Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in this fantastic opportunity.
