Westwood Trades Students Explore Construction Connect Internship Opportunities
The Westwood Welding, and Auto Repair learned about opportunities with the Upper Peninsula Construction Council, and the Sheet Metal Workers. The students were presented with information regarding Construction Connect internships that are awarded to Junior students annually. These internships allow high school seniors to apprentice with multiple companies in the trades fields during their senior year. Along with being paid a wage, these students are offered a preferred entrance directly into the trade of their choosing upon completion of the program. The registration window for these Construction Connect Internships is currently open and will run through March. Students will be able to get more information and apply at their scheduling sessions with the school counselors.
They also talked about the Summer Construction Camp that the UPCC offers for Sophomores. This program runs from July 6-August 5, 2026. It is a great way to get your name out to the trades and learn all the opportunities available. If a student needs more information on the Summer Camp, they can contact a counselor or Mr. Jessen.

Students in grades 9 and 10 have begun taking the NWEA assessments, which measure growth in science, reading, and mathematics. These assessments provide valuable insight into student learning and will be administered again in March to track academic progress throughout the school year. See the link below for more information on the NWEA.

We encourage both parents and students to read the student handbook carefully. It provides important information about school expectations, rules, and available resources, helping everyone understand their rights, responsibilities, and how to create a safe, respectful, and successful learning environment together.
