Meal Order

Dear Families,

At the moment the weather report for Monday looks good for the picnic. We have secured a lifeguard so we should be all set. If there is a change in plans we will be in touch Sunday early evening.

Staff news and departures:

Sarah Flinn, our art teacher, will be on leave for the balance of the year. We’re sorry she won’t be with us these last few days.

As some of you already know, Shannon Minor will not be returning to Weybridge next year as she will be pursuing her nursing degree pretty much full time. We will definitely miss her friendly presence and amazing willingness and capacity to fill in wherever needed.

And, as hard to believe as it is, Barbara Palmer, our beloved provider of meals, is stepping away from her position next year to have more time to support her family. It is hard to imagine Weybridge without Barb as she and her family have been so important in sustaining the intricate fabric of the school community for so very long.

Library News: The Weybridge School Library is busy with end of the year returns, activities, and anticipation of the summer (including summer borrowing), and next week, a book giveaway from Bonnie's Books.

We're also pleased to announce, thanks to funding from the Friends of Weybridge Elementary, that the library will be open for summer hours on Tuesdays, from 4:00 - 6:00, starting on June 24th and continuing until August 19th. This is a lovely opportunity to stay connected to the school library through the summer, and is open to all.

Please check your inbox (and spam folders) for overdue notices from the library. We're getting there! Thanks, Megan

Much Ado About Nothing - The 4/5 students did an amazing job telling a complex story made more complex by the fact that most of the actors played multiple roles. They learned their lines, developed and projected their characters with humor and wit, and supported one another throughout the play. Special thanks to Kat for her flexibility, her work with the students on their lines, and her stellar, quiet prompting; Robin Foster for helping with costumes; and Linda Smith for her work with the students on the exquisite backdrop. Thanks as well to Megan Sutton for graciously giving over the library to costumes, doing some last minute alterations, and overseeing costume changes and the music. Clearly a collaborative effort.

Lunch volunteers - We need volunteers for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week. If you can volunteer for one of these days, please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or sign up directly on the calendar.

Branbury help needed: Please confirm with me that you can help out on Monday. cjohnston@acsdvt.org

  1. Eyes on children in the water: We have hired a lifeguard for the day, but would appreciate a few parents signing up for shifts to add an extra set of eyes on the children in the water. We would like 3-5 volunteers. Once we have volunteers we’ll assign times.

  2. Periodic head counts: We would like to reinstitute the hourly census of the students (a task to be shared with school staff). We need two volunteers per classroom.

  3. Lunch: Barbara needs extra help prepping and serving lunch..

Thanks, Christina

Warm Season Health Office Reminders

Now that the temperatures are rising, I want to send some care reminders out for families to keep in mind.

Sunscreen

  • Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before sun exposure

  • Choose sunscreen that is at least 30 SPF

  • Broad spectrum sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB radiation

  • Reapply every 2 hours or per the bottle instructions

  • For younger students, adults should assist with application

Bug Spray

  • Use the appropriate and recommended amount per spray bottle

  • Adults at home or school should apply bug spray - students can not spray themselves

  • If using sunscreen, let sunscreen dry for 20 minutes before applying bug spray

  • Bug sprays should contain no more than 30% DEET when used on children

Ticks

  • Recommended to do daily tick checks done at home

  • Avoid brush, tall grass and leaves

  • Wear tall socks and pants for when in tick habitats

  • Spray bug spray with Deet on the legs

  • If you find a tick on a student, an adult should remove it with teasers right way

General Reminders

Substitute teachers are crucial for our students, staff, staff, and schools! We are increasing our daily substitute teaching rate to $160/day for unlicensed subs and $200/day for licensed subs. This change begins on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 when students return from winter break. This flat rate replaces our sliding rate of pay for subs depending on the number of days worked.
