Dear Wildwood Families,

What an exhausting, yet amazing first few days of the 2020-21 school year! It was so fun to see so many of your faces at the Principal Orientations and Principal Pep Rallies these last few days! It has also been so rewarding to see scholars engaged in remote learning with their new teachers and classmates! I know we still have some technology issues to work through, but every day gets a little easier navigating this new normal. Additionally, your patience and determination to ensure your child(ren) have a successful start to the school year is appreciated more than words can say. We really are Wildwood Strong...From a Distance and I couldn't be more proud to be a Wildcat.

Beginning next week, I will be hosting the first of many bimonthly Parent Zooms. These Zooms will be bilingual with Assistant Principal Gines co-hosting with me. We want to hear what is working and what isn't working. For this first Parent Zoom, we'd also love your feedback as it relates to online Zoom expectations and positive behavior rewards. Your feedback and partnership is greatly appreciated. Please see the first four dates below with Zoom links:

Attendance

During this time of remote learning, we will be taking attendance every day. It’s important your child engages every school day in both the synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Because learning will be graded this year, your child’s attendance is essential for their success in school.

Teachers will be responsible for marking scholar absences during synchronous learning times (9:00am-12:00pm or 12:30pm-3:30pm M/T/Th/F). During asynchronous learning times (independent work time; not live with their teacher), attendance will be determined based upon the scholar logging into the Launchpad to Learning.

If your child is going to be absent, you will need to call the school or use ParentVUE to enter the absence online.

Opt Out & IRLA Leveling

We provide supports to scholars in a variety of ways. Starting next week, we will begin small group supports and 1:1 IRLA leveling. IRLA leveling assesses your child's independent reading level. One way we do this is through individual, one on one supports with teachers and support staff. During remote learning this can happen during one on one Zoom sessions. If you are not comfortable having your child participate in one on one zooms with a teacher or other staff member, you can choose to opt them out. A message will be sent with a link to an opt out form. You will be able to complete and submit the form letting us know you do not want your child to participate in one on one Zooms. Please know that if you choose to opt your child out, this may impact the school’s ability to conduct some academic assessments and provide individualized supports for your scholar.

Launchpad to Learning

It is critical that scholars log in to Launchpad to Learning every day. This is the ONE STOP for all scholars for accessing their learning every day! This is how they will access Canvas, iReady and other learning tools. Launchpad to Learning is also how scholar attendance for the asynchronous learning time will be taken. So, make sure you always remember to use the Launchpad at the start of your day!
