The Panther Press
DTA 2.0 Parent's Edition September 4, 2024
Limitless PAWSibilities!
Congratulations on a successful kickoff to the 2024-2025 school year! Despite a few minor curveballs, just like last week's heat wave, we continue to rise! Kudos to our entire Dilworth family (students, parents, community supporters, and staff) for being flexible and positive as we navigated adjusting to high temperatures last week. Together we stand. One band! One sound!
The Panther Press newsletter will be delivered electronically every two weeks. Immediate communications and reminders will continue to be delivered using the Talking Points app and/or Robocall.
Please read this newsletter thoroughly to stay informed. Any specific requests to add information should be emailed directly to Principal Zyhier with the subject line, "The Panther Press DTA Request." Please note that although requested, not all requests are guaranteed approval.
Important CUBmunications!
Dilworth Handbook 2024-25
Please review the linked STUDENT HANDBOOK with your child to understand and reiterate our schoolwide expectations. Teachers will review schoolwide and classroom procedures and expectations regularly with students.
Music Dept. Meeting Thursday., Sept. 19th 6-7pm **VIRTUALLY
Music Dept. Meeting Thursday. Sept. 19th 6-7pm **VIRTUAL
Please join the Dilworth music department online on Thursday, Sept. 19th, from 6-7pm to learn about the process of chorus, instrument selection, assignments, and expectations. Information will be shared regarding the CAPA audition process for all majors: art, music, theater, dance, and literary arts. An overview of this year's Spring Musical will also be provided. Several messages will be sent by Ms. Russo, Ms. Dougan, and Mr. Snyder, via Talking Points, which will include the Microsoft Teams link.
Devices and Digital Citizenship
Temporary device distribution is complete. Please remind your child to exercise digital citizenship and follow the guidelines of the AUP in the proper use and care of their laptop. In addition, have students charge their device nightly. Label the charger and keep it at home for nightly charging. As a reminder, cell phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices not issued by the district are not permitted to be used in class. Cell phones should be left home or will be collected and stored safely by teachers and returned at the end of the day.
Dilworth Uniform Exchange
Dilworth provides a volunteer-run Uniform Exchange where you can donate old school uniforms your child has outgrown and request additional sizes!
To donate, please send uniform friendly clean clothes in a bag to the main office and label "For Uniform Exchange." These donations will be sorted and put away by volunteers.
In order to request clothing from the uniform exchange, please fill out the form below:
Dilworth Uniform Exchange Request Form
Clothing is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Requests will be delivered to your child's homeroom. You will be notified if your request cannot be filled. Please allow one week for your request to be filled and delivered. Any items that are sent home and do not fit can be returned to the uniform exchange and additional items can be requested.
If you would like to volunteer to help out with the uniform exchange, please email Rachous1@aol.com.
Dilworth Backpack Initiative
Have you heard about Dilworth PTA’s Backpack Initiative? Its mission is to assist Pittsburgh Dilworth Pre-K through 5th grade students experiencing food insecurity by providing weekend food supplies. Each participating student receives a bag packed with child-friendly single-serving snacks and easily prepared meals every Friday. Food is donated, packed, and distributed by Dilworth volunteers, and we strive to include protein, whole grains, fruits, and dairy products in each bag (*please note: peanut products will be included in the bags*).
If you would like to enroll your child in the program for this school year, please fill out the online form at https://tinyurl.com/Backpacks-24-25 or sign and return the permission slip that will be sent home with students as part of the September PTA Newsletter.
The Backpack Initiative relies on having a strong team of volunteers and donors to keep it running smoothly. If you’re interested in donating to the program, we would truly appreciate your support! Please email Julie Frischkorn at dtabackpacks@gmail.com to find out more.
Arrival & Dismissal
Students will be welcomed into the building at 8:55 am. Please do not leave students unattended at the entrance of the building prior to 8:55. There is no adult supervision until 8:55am. Parents, please drop students off and do not enter the building beyond the main office. Without proper ID and an appointment, visitors may not walk the halls during arrival or dismissal. This is to ensure the safety of our students.
Please arrive no later than 3:55pm for pick up, if your child does not ride the school bus. If you have challenges picking your child up on time, reach out to any one of several after school programs (Deakings Daycare, Each One Teach One, Mt. Arayat, Boys & Girls Club, etc.) to see if they have availability.
Early Dismissal Reminder
Early dismissals may occur up until 3:30 pm daily. Please contact the office and send a Talking Points message to your child's teacher with details.
