This week we explored primary colors. Some of the activities we did were: Color Milk Experiment, primary color hunt, Count on Crayons, Color AB pattern, primary color bracelets and How many crayons to make a line? A main goal in our PreK 3 classroom is exploration while learning. Ms. Erfurth's class did an excellent job being acolytes in chapel this week. I know Ms. Esperza's class wil do the same next week. Look at the calendar above to see what day your child will be an acolyte. Parents and/or grandparents are welcome to join at 8:30am to watch their child participate in serving in Little Chapel.

Parent conferences will be held on Friday, Oct. 2nd. This day is a student holiday. Childcare will be available in the gym for your SLES student during your conference time. We are looking forward to meeting with each of you to share your child's growth so far. If you have not signed up for a time slot yet, please do so as soon as possible. Each conference time is 15 minutes so punctuality is important.

PK3 have started to check out one library book on Thursdays. They will need to return their book on Tuesdays each week (grace period to Thursday) to be able to check out a new book on Thursday. We recommend finding a special spot at our house to keep their book until time to return it to school. When a library book returns to school in their backpack we will assume you are ready to return it. We will remove it from their backpack and place in our library book box until Thursday.

Remember your child's teacher is your first contact person if you have a question/concern. We are here to enhance your child's learning forming a wonderful partnership in learning. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Some of the math skills we will be working on next week are:

1.) measuring with non-standard units (crayons)

2.) counting

3.) 1:1 correspondence (for example: 1 object to 1 space)

4.) comparisons

These skills we will be reinforced throughout the year.

At home, you can go on a color hunt and count the number of a specific color found. Talk about which color you found the most/least number of objects. Using common items for learning, it's easy and helps your child gain valuable skills.

Next week some of the language arts skills we will be working on are:

1.) increasing vocabulary

2.) identifying colors

3.) same and different

4.) listening skills

At home, you can look at pictures/objects and talk about what colors are found in it. Read to your child each day to develop a love of reading and a beginning foundation for reading.
