Celebrating Fall Success and Welcoming Winter Competition Congratulations to our softball and volleyball state champions on outstanding seasons! Earning a state championship reflects months of preparation, dedication, teamwork and perseverance. We are proud of our student-athletes and grateful to the coaches, school administrators, families and communities who support them.

We extend special congratulations to our 2026 Fast-Pitch Softball State Champions:

• Class 7A: Harrison

• Class 6A: Creekview

• Class 5A: Jefferson

• Class 4A: West Laurens

• Class 3A: Sonoraville

• Class 2A: Gordon Lee

• Class A: Trion

• Private: Mount Paran Christian

We also proudly recognize our 2026 Volleyball State Champions:

• Class 7A: North Forsyth

• Class 6A: Woodward Academy

• Class 5A: Marist

• Class 4A: Oconee County

• Class 3A: Morgan County

• Class A/2A: Bremen

• Private: Lovett

We also congratulate every team and individual who competed this fall. While a championship is a special achievement, the lessons learned through competition—discipline, resilience, responsibility and respect—will benefit our students long after the season ends.

The excitement continues as we prepare to finish cheerleading, cross country, One Act Play, flag football and football over the next few weeks. These culminating events provide opportunities to celebrate the talent and commitment of students across Georgia. We wish all remaining participants the very best as they represent their schools and communities in pursuit of a state title.

As fall competition concludes, wrestling, rifle and basketball are beginning. A new season brings fresh goals and opportunities for students to grow, compete and build lasting relationships. We look forward to following their accomplishments throughout the winter.

Thank you to our member schools, contest officials, event workers and host communities for making these experiences possible. As we celebrate our champions and welcome a new season, let us continue to model good sportsmanship and keep our students at the center of everything we do.

GHSA Mourns the Passing of Ernie Yarbrough GHSA Mourns the Passing of Ernie Yarbrough

The Georgia High School Association is mourning the passing of longtime GHSA leader Ernie Yarbrough, who died Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Yarbrough began working with the GHSA in 1992 as a rules interpreter and served the association in several roles, including Coordinator of Officiating and Assistant Executive Director. He retired from day-to-day duties with the GHSA in 2024 but remained on staff part time, continuing to share his experience and support the association.

As the GHSA associate director of girls flag football, Yarbrough helped guide the sport’s growth and success. He helped secure grants and expand participation across the state, creating more opportunities for student-athletes.

Yarbrough’s experience, dedication and care for others made a lasting difference in Georgia high school sports. Those who knew him will remember his familiar sign-off: “Be safe out there”—a simple expression of the thoughtfulness and concern he showed others.

The GHSA community will deeply miss Ernie and the knowledge, commitment and kindness he shared with its schools, student-athletes, coaches and colleagues.

Championship Media Credential Policy Update Championship Media Credential Policy Update

The GHSA has strengthened its credentialing standards for championship-level events due to repeated fraudulent media representation during state finals, unprofessional conduct, and violations of ethical standards.

GHSA championship media credentials are reserved for working media representing established professional news and sports outlets. Independent content creators, social-media influencers, fan pages, and individuals covering events primarily for personal social-media platforms are not eligible.

Previous approval for a GHSA championship credential does not guarantee future approval. We will evaluate all applications under current credentialing standards.

Limited exceptions may be considered for personnel officially affiliated with a GHSA member school. School administration must verify the individual's official role and purpose for covering the event. Verification does not guarantee credential approval; final approval remains at the discretion of the GHSA.

These standards are designed to protect student-athletes, maintain a professional working environment, and ensure appropriate media access at GHSA championship events. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

Questions regarding media credentials should be directed to Marvin James, Director of Media Relations, at marvin.james@ghsa.net

Lets Recognize our Top Officiating Crews Lets Recognize our Top Officiating Crews

The NFHS and NFL are in their fourth year of their combined Crew of the Month and Crew of the Year initiative. The initiative began during the 2023 football season with five state associations and five teams involved in a pilot program, growing to 30 state associations and all 32 NFL teams participating this season.

The participating state associations and their respective NFL teams recognize high school football officials in the months of September, October, and November for their demonstration of objectivity, fairness in rules implementation and commitment as high school football officials. A total of 39 crews and over 240 officials are recognized each month, as some teams recognize officials from more than one state in their markets.

At the end of the season, an overall Crew of the Year is selected from the 117 crews submitted during the 2026 season. The Crew of the Year participates in an activation at the NFL Hall of Fame Game held in August.
