Holy Cross Catholic School

I absolutely love this community and celebrating it this week has been wonderful. Celebration seems to be the best way to end Catholic Schools Week with the past, present and future members of our parish and school community. Everything we do is for God's children and I feel blessed be part of the Holy Cross Catholic School mission. Thank you everyone for choosing Holy Cross and being a part of our family.

Our mission is clear and the word is out about what Holy Cross can provide for your children and family. It is only February and our enrollment is is already 77% higher than it was last year at this time. Although this is amazing, we have classrooms filling up. We love each and everyone of our students and want them to continue on this journey with us. Please be sure to register your child today so you do not lose your spot. Please call the school office for additional details.

Since the broader community is aware of all the wonderful work happening at Holy Cross, we would love for our families to receive a benefit by encouraging friends to join our program. If you have a friend that enrolls a child in grades K-4, you are eligible for one month free tuition. It's a win win situation! Inquire in the office for more details.

Don't forget we will adding ten minutes to the day to make up for our snow days. Dismissal will be 3:40pm starting Monday, February 5.

I am looking forward to celebrating as a community on Saturday! Can't wait to see you there!

Please help us keep our students safe! This past week we had several near accidents because parents were stopping to let their children out by the two entrances in the back parking lot. With our two car lines (Preschool and K-8) going, it is important that we are following the flow of traffic. Additionally, when people stop, our line backs up on 95th street which is very unsafe and the Overland Park Police Department is alerted. I appreciate your help as I know we share a common goal of keeping our kids safe.

Enrollment Tables After Mass

Enrollment Tables After Mass

Help spread the good news about Holy Cross. We would love more of our parish families to join our school family. We will have an information table after masses this weekend, January 20 and 21st. We would like current families to help give their testimonies about Holy Cross to potential school families.

Math+: Advanced Mathematics Learning Opportunity

Gain an edge – with skills that matter

This is Mr. Greg Owsley, co-founder and curriculum writer of RedwoodPrep. I’ve

taught at Rockhurst High School for the last 16 years, most recently serving as

STEAM Director. I will be teaching another addition of Math+ this Spring for 6th to

8th grade students.

I strongly believe in Math+ and would encourage your family to participate. Each

Math+ course explores 1 major idea included in Stanford University’s introductory

math sequence. This is world-class content tailored to younger students. I continue to

be impressed by how students get excited and passionate about math during Math+.

We want students to be excited about math – and Math+ does a great job doing just

that.

This season’s course will be taught at Rockhurst High School on Thursdays from 4:00

to 5:00 pm starting on Thursday, March 21st for six weeks. The program will cost

$250. Families can sign-up at www.RedwoodPrep.com.

This Spring, the Math+ program will be focused on Logic and Proofs. In

Mathematics, logic and proofs represent the most rigorous way to ‘solve’ a problem

and form the backbone of advanced math. These critical skills have become

increasingly tested in standardized exams with ~20% of SAT Math questions testing

basic logic.

Most interested students can succeed in Math+. I find that students with a gift for

math or a real desire to participate can succeed and learn a lot. Students interested in

advanced math classes, high performance on standardized exams or general math

ability will particularly benefit.

If you have any questions, please reach out. I hope to work with you and your family

on this exciting program.

Best,

Mr. Greg Owsley
