The Weekly Hoot
March 6, 2026
Back from a fun-filled break and ready to ring in spring! No, I am not sick of the snow — it’s the cold that I’m done with. If only we could skip mud and bug season!
We kicked off our One School, One Book program on Tuesday, March 3. The students are excited to read The Trumpet of the Swan and are looking forward to the activities we have planned. Please see below for the reading chart along with information about our Friday activities. We hope you enjoy reading this together as a family.
As a result of the One School, One Book event and the Friday activities that go along with it, we will be adjusting our Community Lunch schedule for the next two months.
Community Lunch will take place on the following dates:
March 13, 2026 (12:30–1:00 p.m.)
April 10, 2026 (12:30–1:00 p.m.)
Don’t forget to spring your clocks ahead one hour on Sunday!
I hope you have a wonderful week.

We are excited to share this year’s One Book, One Community selection: The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White. This classic story follows Louis, a swan born without a voice, who learns to overcome his challenges with determination, creativity, and the help of a trumpet. Along the way, readers meet memorable characters and experience a heartwarming adventure filled with humor and beautiful language.
This book is especially enjoyable when read together as a family. Some of the words and expressions may feel a bit old-fashioned, which can lead to wonderful conversations and opportunities to explore new vocabulary. If reading aloud at home isn’t always possible, you can also find many online videos of people reading the book that families can enjoy together.
We hope this shared story brings many moments of laughter, curiosity, and connection for your family.
Happy reading!

Students are busy completing their Owl sculpture this week. Students will be proud to escort our mascot float through the Children and the Arts parade on May 16th. If you have a vehicle with cargo space to bring the Owl to the parade and back to school, or if you have a wagon or roadworthy cart that we can use to pull the Owl along the parade route, please let us know. We could also use a couple of 3-5 foot poles: Old broom or shovel handles would work great. Thank you for considering.
Sincerely,
Justin Melle
