Kindness

One never knows how far a word of kindness goes;
One never sees how far a smile of friendship flees.
Down, through the years, the deed forgotten reappears.

One kindly word the souls of many here has stirred.
Man goes his way and tells with every passing day,
Until life's end: "Once unto me he played the friend."

We cannot say what lips are praising us to-day.
We cannot tell whose prayers ask God to guard us well.
But kindness lives beyond the memory of him who gives.

(Edgar Albert Guest 1881-1959)

Dear God,

Please help me to be thankful for those who have shown me kindness; to ask for guidance and strength to be kind today, and eyes to see where kindness is needed.

Amen

PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Open Night and Performing Arts Concert

Our school's Open Night and Performing Arts Concert took place last night and was a great success. There was a lot of positive energy evident as families had the opportunity to visit the children’s classrooms and see some of the great work they have being doing this term. At the conclusion of the Open Night, the students in our School Choir, Recorder Ensemble, Band and Dance Team performed for the families. It was a fantastic community event.

Sports Carnival

The Sports Carnival was an awesome day, well done to all the students involved for your sportsmanship and energy, and it was great to see so many parents supporting on the day. Thank you also to the staff for their role in managing the day, and especially Miss Jones who did a great job in planning the new program and running the carnival. Thank you also to the P&F who ran the cake stall during the carnival. Congrats to this year’s winners, Nganka in a close contest.

Volunteers

I would like to highlight the wonderful contribution and impact our volunteers make to our school community. People volunteer through a variety of ways, and I would like to recognise the following volunteers:

- Our P&F who plan, organise and run many awesome community events throughout the year

- The Advisory Council members who meet regularly and provide feedback to me and support for the running of the school

- Our canteen volunteers – Aila Espiritu, Navneet Chauhan and Iris Schrott who assist every week to provide lunches for our children

- Hannah Morgan-Smith who runs playgroup on Friday mornings

- Parents who assist the teachers, helping in classrooms, on excursions and at sports carnivals

- Our staff who serve at and donate food items for Breakfast Club

Organisations such as schools need the support of volunteers to help in so many ways and especially to make our community stronger. Additionally, there is a direct correlation between parents’ engagement with the school and the school experience for their children, this includes improved students’ attendance, motivation to learn, and academic results. If you have assisted in some way either by helping at a one-off event or every week, I thank you for your valuable contribution to St John Paul II CPS.

Colour Explosion Run 4 Fun

St John Paul II CPS is hosting the very popular Colour Explosion Run 4 Fun, on Friday the 14th of November from 2pm to 3pm.

Part of the Colour Explosion Run 4 Fun involves fundraising, and this year we are hoping to raise enough money to put towards a swing in the top oval sand pit. Students can also earn prizes based on the amount of money they raise. Additionally, the class with the greatest number of students who raise money will receive a zooper dooper for each member of that class.

Tomorrow, students will receive a sponsorship book with instructions on setting up their cybersafe, online fundraising profile at www.australianfundraising.com.au. This is an entirely online fundraiser; all cash donations must be converted to online donations to redeem your prizes. For more information, please contact Susannah Piek at susannah@santoshabookkeeping.com.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all on Monday 13th October.
