Principal's Corner
Hello, FamiLEE!
We have two and half weeks until Thanksgiving break. Please remind your young adult to keep up with assignments and communicate with his/ her teachers. We want everyone to finish well.
We will have our Veteran's Day program on tomorrow, November 10, 2025 at 1:00p.m. Our parents who are veterans are welcomed to attend.
Please discuss with your young adult the importance of following the FamiLEE expectations. We are working hard to ensure our students master the content needed to be successful in their life's next steps. We need your help in making sure they follow the HCS Code of Conduct including the NO CELL PHONE Policy. Thank you for your assistance.
It is so very important for your student to be at school each day so they don't miss the great things happening at Lee. If for any reason your student isn't able to attend, please make sure you send attendance emails to LHS.Attendance@hsv-k12.org. We want to make sure the attendance is coded correctly.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Kitrise Torain
LHS Principal

Lee High School's Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Pippin for being selected as our 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Pippin works hard as a teacher, mentor, coach, and all-around leader for our school. She always has a joyful attitude and works hard to unite our faculty on many levels. Ms. Pippin is a blessing to our students, her teammates, and everyone lucky enough to call her a friend!
FamiLEE Spotlight
Congratulations to our FamiLEE spotlight this week, Mr. Pitts! He is one of our self-contained collaborative teachers. Mr. Pitts does a remarkable job working with students to ensure they are learning standards as well as transitional skills. He takes students to multiple places, including Free to Teach and Mana House, to help train them for the workforce. His students enjoy being in his class and have good relationships with Mr. Pitts. Be sure to tell him congratulations when you see him!
Shout-Outs
- Shout out to Freshman of the Week Josiah Pullen, who comes to us from Chapman Middle School. He plays the baritone in the band here at Lee. In his spare time, he likes to write and play basketball. After high school, he plans to study real estate. His favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Walker because she makes her class interesting and is entertaining.
- Shout out to Freshman of the Week Ayana Cook, who comes to us from Williams Middle School. She is in the visual arts magnet. In her spare time, she likes to paint. When she graduates from high school, she wants to study art abroad and begin a business that includes art. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Smith because she is sweet and always checks on Ayana to make sure she's doing okay.
- Shout out to the Lee High Esports Team! They're powering through another exciting season, and their Rocket League Roster is holding strong in 2nd place in the state with an impressive 6-1 record heading into the final week of competition. Returning veterans Jason Emerson and Hunter Wooten have teamed up with newcomer Matthew Yelder, a senior who's brought incredible energy and passion to the roster this year!
- Shout out to the Lee/New Century General Battalion, which placed in the following events at the JROTC Drill Competition last weekend: Unarmed Squad, 3rd place; Armed Color Guard, 2nd place; and Unarmed Platoon, 3rd place. Great job, cadets!
Magnet Minute
District Trumbauer 2025 was a complete success! Lee High Magnet earned 90 superiors and 20 excellent awards! We are extremely excited to attend State Trumbauer with 71 I.E.s and our one act, A Monster Calls! A Monster Calls was also awarded with Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design, All Star Cast Member, and Best Supporting Actor. We are so proud of our students and staff, and we can't wait to see how they do at State!
The Harmoniouslee submission deadline closed on November 1st, and the Creative Writing Magnet received ninety-four literary/visual art pieces! The authors have already organized and started voting on the submissions. In the spirit of complete author voice and agency, the voting process is a student-led discussion of relevancy of theme and an anonymous vote on meeting the rubric standards. We are on schedule and excited to share the published product in the spring!
Fall magnet applications opened October 17th and close December 3rd! Check out the flyer below for more information on our conservatories and areas of study.
Announcements
New HCS Wireless Communication Device Policy: We want to inform you about an important update to our school policies in response to a new state law. On May 14, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey signed the FOCUS Act (Freeing Our Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety) into law. This law, which went into effect July 1, 2025, requires public schools across Alabama to limit student use of wireless communication devices during the instructional day to improve focus, safety, and engagement. In compliance with this law, Huntsville City Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy beginning Fall 2025. Please click here to review the new HCS Wireless Communication Device policy.
Attendance
We want your child to be in school with us every day! Attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. We can't teach children who aren't at school. We have a goal of 95% this year. Please help us reach this goal by ensuring your child is here every day. If you child has to be out, please send excuses to LHS.attendance@hsv-k12.org.
