Breaking News

  • Several of our families rely on school-provided breakfast and lunch. Each year, we set a goal to organize and collect food to make 20 meal baskets that go to a Hixson student and their family to help them during the winter break. Just like the baskets prepared during Thanksgiving, this is a collaborative effort amongst all of the Hixson community. If you are interested in donating an item, please see the link below. We ask that you have all donations dropped off at the office by Friday, December 13th. Thank you for your continued support in making Hixson such a strong and supportive school! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094fa9ab2aa7f49-holiday

  • The 28th Annual Webster Groves Holiday House Tour, sponsored by Hixson PTO, will take place on Sunday, December 8th from 11am to 4pm. This is the biggest fundraising event of the year and it takes many volunteers to make it successful! We have 6 beautiful homes and a holiday boutique that are opening their doors and we need LOTS of volunteers to work the event! The event time is 11am-4pm, and we have it split into 2 shifts. Please sign up using this link. We are also in need of treats for the boutique. If you are able to provide either store bought or homemade treats, please drop them off at Steger between 9-11am the day of the tour. If you have any questions about the event itself, please reach out to Teresa Herrell at tabrussel4975@yahoo.com or 314-607-0957. Thank you for your help and support!

  • Save the Date for the Winter Mixer on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 6:30-8:00pm! The theme will be Snow Ball. There will be a DJ, open gym, and snacks available for purchase. No cost to attend with suggested $5+ donation for Webster Rock Hill Ministries.

  • Parents-If you and/or your spouse were active duty military, employed by the federal government or otherwise worked on federal property on 9/25/2019, we need your help! Additional federal funding is available to school districts when at least 3% of the student population is from homes with parents/guardians employed by the federal government or working on federal property. ELA- Mrs. Forderhase

This week, students joined historical fiction book clubs. They learned about databases with Mrs. Tuminello in the library and found articles connected to the time period of their novels to build background knowledge. Students worked in clubs to establish reading calendars. The pace is brisk as we near the end of the semester. Students who need to bring books home can check them out from me at the end of the day and return them before school the next morning. If you would like to support our classroom library, please visit our class Amazon Wish List.

Science- Mrs. Kenney

This week in science, we began our Chemistry Unit. Students explored the Periodic Table with an online Scavenger Hunt. Each student colored their own periodic table. Next, each student signed up for an element of their choice to research. Then, students created a superhero or villain based off of that element. If you would like to support our classroom projects, we would greatly appreciate donations of duct tape, hot glue sticks, and glue sticks. Thank you!

Social Studies- Mr. Ward

This week in social studies, we began our study of the Constitution. We started with the 7 Principles of the Constitution and the Preamble to the Constitution. Students took notes covering both items. On Thursday students took a quiz over the information covered in class. On Friday, students started looking at Checks and Balances and how they work. Next week, we will cover the structure of government and how it works.

ETC

The Green Team is participating in Jug Wars. Jug wars are a way for our team to collect funds for a needy family for the upcoming holiday seasons. We will be asking students to bring in money to donate to this needy family. We will collect money through Friday 12/13. There will be a friendly competition between the Green Team teachers’ first-hour class to see who can raise the most funds for our family.
