CVU Celebrations
October 17, 2025
Guest author: Tyler Alexander, CVU Social Studies Teacher and author of If I Can Get Home This Fall: A Story of Love, Loss, and a Cause in the Civil War (check out this recent Seven Days article about the book)
Dear Community,
CVU students had an amazing opportunity Thursday morning to hear oral arguments before the Vermont Supreme Court in three separate cases. Beyond learning a lot about the intricacies of the three cases-which involved an eminent domain case, a probate case, and a divorce case-students gained a valuable firsthand experience with democracy at its best. They were able to talk to law clerks before and after oral arguments (including having lunch with them!), share their thoughts in interviews with local media outlets, and participate in a question and answer session with the justices themselves. The justices encouraged students to actively engage in the political process, seek out a diversity of viewpoints, and to approach every issue with an open mind and curiosity.
Check out Tyler Cohen's article about the Supreme Court visit which was posted to CVSD social media.

Hello CVU Community! Starting this week, Student Council is bringing back our weekly updates. This is a great way for the community to get a first hand look at what the student leaders are up to! Over the last couple of weeks, we have been busy at work, planning our annual fall events including the Crystal Skull, Turkey Trot, and Appreciation Week! We have also introduced a new House Points System as a way to increase participation and school spirit at school functions. Make sure to stay tuned to learn more about these amazing events!

Zoology braved the chilly morning outside on Thursday to see what lives in the pond! We were reviewing our knowledge about insects and priming our learning about our next unit.
Who will the winner be?
The Hindes/Wardwell Advisory 1st Annual Mini-Pickleball tournament kicked off on Thursday! Who will win? Stay tuned CVU...
Amnesty International Banned Books Week Read-In
Amnesty International, in collaboration with the library, hosted a "read-in" to mark Banned Books Week. Students learned about Amnesty efforts to protect freedom of expression and the state of book challenges and bans in the United States. Finally, students took time to read a selection of commonly banned and challenged books.
From Henry Lang:
COMPASS students’ Terrorism unit culminated in a field trip to Come From Away at Northern Stage on Thursday. We were joined by Elisa van Duyne’s Acting class, Theatre Club, and a few Nichols CORE students to fill three extra seats. Elisa’s students (pictured) got to meet her former Broadway castmate, Susan Haefner, afterwards! Scenic Design by David L. Arsenault.

Faculty/Staff Celebrations
