Glenbard West Construction Update
June 24, 2026
Dear Glenbard West Community,
We are writing to provide an update on the construction work currently taking place on the Glenbard West campus, specifically the work occurring on the hill near the classroom wing project.
As construction has progressed, our construction and architecture/engineering teams have continued to evaluate site conditions, as is standard practice during excavation work. During this process, the project team identified soil conditions that warranted additional review and engineering analysis. The project team temporarily paused a portion of the excavation work to complete further review and adjust the construction approach.
Throughout this process, Gilbane, our construction partner, and Wold, our architecture and engineering partner, have continued to monitor site conditions and worked closely with the district to ensure the project proceeds safely. They have developed an alternate stabilization plan to support the next phase of work. Stabilization work took place on June 23rd. This plan has gone through the necessary engineering review, and work is expected to resume on June 24th as the project team moves forward with the revised approach.
This additional review and process has resulted in a delay of approximately two months for this portion of the project. The district, Gilbane and Wold are working together to develop a recovery schedule and evaluate how this may impact the overall project schedule. We expect to have more information to share regarding the updated schedule at the next Board of Education meeting on July 27th.
The additional work is expected to use a small portion of the contingency funds already built into the project budget. Contingency funds are included in construction budgets for when conditions are identified during the course of the work and adjustments are needed. While this pause has affected the excavation schedule, it also allowed the project team to complete other important preparation work, including the boarding of windows and additional site preparation.
We are grateful for the continued work of our construction and design partners and for the community’s patience as we continue this important investment in Glenbard West.
We will continue to provide updates through our regular Board of Education and Finance Committee reports, district communications and project updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued support of Glenbard West and Glenbard District 87.
Sincerely,
Ben Peterselli
