This week, numerous social media posts mentioning threats of violence toward campuses across the state have been received by law enforcement and the general public. All social media threats that are received by either GISD Security, our tri-city police departments, or the public are thoroughly investigated.
The threats this week have mostly originated from a recycled “list” that has been posted and reposted several times to districts throughout the State of Texas. All law enforcement agencies as well as the FBI have verified this is a non-credible threat and continues to be recycled and reposted. GISD Security and our tri-city police departments have investigated other social media threats as well as verbal threats this week. All these threats have also been thoroughly investigated and found to be non-credible. Students have been arrested in some instances for making a threat (even though the threat was non-credible).
GISD Security and our police departments will continue to investigate every single threat received and will continue to prioritize the safety and security of all students, staff, and parents at all our campuses and facilities.
