Battelle Grant Provides Math Opportunity for Elementary Students
Earlier this year, Joann Nosan, Chapman Elementary Gifted Intervention Specialist, and Lauren Scotta, SCS Gifted Coordinator, were awarded a Battelle grant to bring The Game of 24, a fast-paced math strategy game, to fifth-grade classrooms. Designed to strengthen students’ computational fluency, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, this project makes math engaging, collaborative, and accessible to all learners. Over the past several months, teachers have introduced and facilitated gameplay during math workshops or intervention/enrichment time. By integrating hands-on, game-based learning into instruction, the project has fostered a strong STEM culture, promoted equity in learning opportunities, and helped students connect mathematical thinking to real-world problem-solving and future STEM careers.

Also, please know that once completed, the SMS field will no longer be open for continuous use. People may still use the field by following our facilities rental procedures.
