Superintendent's Message
LPOSD Families and Community Members,
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's an opportunity to appreciate life’s positives and blessings — family, friends, community, health, memories… and an amazing school district! Thank you to our extraordinary students and families; you make our district a vibrant community, and serving you is a true privilege. I love the longstanding history of multiple generations of families who have attended LPOSD schools, as well as the new faces to our district. A special highlight this month was witnessing our unique Veterans Day programs. It's heartwarming to see our students and Veterans interact in meaningful ways. We love to show our appreciation for North Idaho's Veterans!
We extend our deepest gratitude to retiring School Board Chair, Geraldine Lewis. For almost a decade, Geraldine dedicated herself to serving LPOSD students and families, embodying the mission of "Every student, Every day" with unwavering commitment and passion. As a mother of four LPOSD graduates, Geraldine understands the transformative power of a well-rounded and robust education. Throughout her tenure, she has been steadfast in ensuring all students have the opportunity for success, both academically and personally. Her leadership shaped the direction of our district and provided students with the tools needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Her contributions are immeasurable, so we celebrate that remarkable legacy and express our gratitude for her unwavering service to the LPOSD community. Thank you, Geraldine, for your years of leadership, compassion and service!
With Much Gratitude, bwm

School Closure Information
- Road conditions are the primary factor in deciding school closures during heavy snowfall. Monitoring of local road conditions and weather begins at 4 a.m. using the National Weather Service and radar imagery.
- We try to make delay and closure decisions by 5 a.m. to allow time for parents and staff to receive communication & plan for the day accordingly.
- A delayed start may be utilized if road conditions are expected to improve mid-morning. School will start two hours later than the normal start time at each school, and the school day will end at the usual time. Bus routes and morning pickup times follow the two-hour morning delay schedule.

Forums Reveal Consistent Themes
District leaders hosted two public forums this month to gather stakeholder and parent input for the upcoming Sandpoint Middle School renovation project. Thank you, community, for attending! Five themes emerged:
- Upgrade the school's outdated and inefficient mechanical systems.
- Provide safe, comfortable learning spaces.
- Improve traffic congestion for parents picking up and dropping off.
- Expand the cafeteria to accommodate all students.
- The need for soft, natural lighting to enhance mood and overall well-being.
Department of Transportation Safety Advice
Top 5 Winter Safety Tips for LPOSD Bus Riders
- Dress for the Weather: Be prepared for delays with appropriate winter clothing. Our buses always try to stay on schedule; however, delays can happen due to weather, trains, traffic and more. Consider extra layers, a hat, gloves and scarves in case there's a need to wait longer than anticipated.
- Be Visible in the Dark: Wear reflective clothing or use flashlights during early morning bus waits to enhance visibility for both bus drivers and other traffic.
- Choose Safe Waiting Spots: Wait in safe and visible areas at bus stops, avoiding spots behind vegetation or structures for better visibility.
- Arrive Early: Arrive at your bus stop at least five minutes early!
- Use Bus Handrails: When entering or exiting the bus in snowy or icy conditions, use handrails to prevent slipping on steps.

Important Dates to Remember
You don't have to be food bank member to get a free coat. Only requirement — seeking warmth! Remember that coats are available for infants through adults, all genders!
- Plan extra travel time, walk slowly, and be cautious of ice.
Wear waterproof boots with good traction.
Cars can have difficulty stopping on ice and slide easier so make sure and wait for a car to pass or stop completely before stepping into the roadway.
With fewer daylight hours, wear something bright or reflective.
