In Our Busy Classroom
Trains!
Foundational Skills (Phonics & Phonemic Awareness)
Every day we work in small groups to practice the alphabet, the sounds of each letter, and the spelling rules that we have learned. Some children are practicing how to write their name. Some children are learning the sounds of letters. Some children are reading short words and learning new sounds and spelling rules.
Reading
We Love to Read!
Our class reads every day! We also listen to stories and read books together. During reading time some children are re-reading books they have heard. Some children are reading with a teacher. Some children are reading independently! Each child is developing their ability to sit and focus on reading for longer periods of time. Each child is practicing the letters and words they know.
Writing
Drawing and Writing
In the next few weeks students will be practicing the crucial skill of retelling and sequencing a series of events. They will write about the trips we take, places they like to go, and things they do with you! I encourage you to have children tell you about their day. Encourage them to say what happened First, what happened Next, and what happened at the End of the day.
Math
Math Focus: Shapes!
We are learning about shapes, both 2D and 3D. We will continue to work on counting to bigger and bigger numbers. I encourage you to find shapes all around you when you are walking or traveling with your child.

Upcoming Homework Packet & Reminder
We will begin sending home the homework packet the week of October 6th, 2025. Homework is an important tool for reinforcing what we’re learning in class, and we ask that you supervise your child’s homework to ensure they are completing it independently and to the best of their ability.
Please make sure to check and empty your child’s folder every night to stay on top of any announcements and assignments. Encourage your child to use a pencil when completing their homework, and remember, the goal is for practice and to build confidence, not perfection. Your involvement and support in this process are greatly appreciated! Thank you for helping your child stay organized and engaged in their learning journey.
