Cafeteria Cafeteria

When parents come in to eat lunch with their students, parents are more then welcome to purchase a cafeteria meal. I wanted to share a few things that have come up recently:

On lunch accounts, if parents have set a daily purchase limit, the cafeteria staff can not override it. A lot of times, if a parent is purchasing a meal along with their student, it often goes over the limit that was set by the parent.

If you are planning to purchase a meal, please be sure either the daily purchase limit on your student's account is set to a number that can allow for the purchase of two meals, bring exact change, or bring a check.

If you do not bring exact change, there is no guarantee you can be given change due to us not carrying cash in the building. Any extra money can be added to your students lunch account if you are ok with that.

STEM Day STEM Day

We are having our first annual STEM day at TAES on May 19th. Students will get to participate in different rotations and fun activities throughout the day. The schedule is very fluid with each grade doing different things. The volunteer slots are longer then just the station times to support other areas as well, but if you would like to plan around when your students will be at stations, the station times are as follows:

Kinder: 12:00 - 12:55

First: 8:30 - 9:25

Second: 10:30 - 11:30

Third: 1:00 - 1:55

Fourth: 9:30 - 10:25

We are looking for parents to help volunteer to run stations to help us make this happen for our students. Please sign up using the link below. It is imperative that if you sign up you can commit to that time so we can ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible.

We will not be able to allow parent visitors during the event, due to lack of space. We will be using the entire building throughout the day which is going to be tight with our 600 students and the set up for all of the activities. We will be sure to take a lot of photos and hope that you get to enjoy asking your students all about their experience.

Teacher Appreciation Week Teacher Appreciation Week

Next week May 5th - May 9th we will be recognizing our truly exceptional teachers and staff. While we have lots planned there are still things that we need to help make the week a success. If you would like to send in items please do so by Monday May 5th here is a list of what is still needed signupgenius or if you wish to contribute monetarily you may do so by venmo to PTA President Sara Cotten @Sara-Cotten-2.

In honor of Teacher and Staff appreciation week we encourage your child to "dress like a pirate on Wednesday May 7th, to show our Teachers they Arrrrggghhh the best around.

Teacher and Staff wish list can be found here and shipped directly to the school.

Message in a bottle - We would love to provide each staff member with a message in a bottle. Please take a moment to send a brief note to teachers and staff message in a bottle

End of Year School Wide Celebration End of Year School Wide Celebration

This year PTA is sponsoring an EOY school wide celebration for all of our students on May 16th in lieu of Summer Splash. Each grade will enjoy a foam party, snow cones, putt putt and other yard games.

If students are choosing to participate in the foam portion we recommend they wear older clothes they do not mind getting wet or dirty. We also recommend them brining a change of clothes for the rest of the day.

Because of the nature of the party and the small time frames we have students participating in throughout the day, we will not be having parent visitors. Parent visitors will be able to join classrooms during their individual class celebrations.

Bus Riders Bus Riders

As we enter the new year we wanted to highlight some important reminders of our BUS RIDER EXPECTATIONS. Please review and talk to your bus rider about following the rules and how they can make good choices.

Reminder:

-K-2nd grade riders MUST have a responsible adult at the bus stop or get off with an older sibling in order for the student to exit the bus.

-You must be at your stop 10 minutes PRIOR to the bus arrival.

-Have your child stand back from the road until the bus makes a complete stop. At no point should a child run towards a moving bus.

-Your child MUST remain seated, facing forward, and be respectful for the duration of the bus ride.

For your convenience you can download Here Comes the Bus on your smartphone, tablet, or computer to view the real-time location of your child's school bus.

Visit http://www.herecomesthebus.com for more information.

Thank you for your cooperation! Safety is our number one priority when transporting your child to and from school.

Transportation Changes Transportation Changes

If your student has a change in transportation that is different then then normal, please take the following steps:

  • Send in writing (handwritten note, email, rooms message) to your child's teaching
  • If you do not get a response by 12 pm the day the change is needed, please call the front office. We will still ask you to send it in writing, but we will be sure the teacher gets the information
  • No student can ride a bus other then the bus they are assigned to
  • No student can ride a bus with a friend unless they are assigned to that bus

Attendance Attendance

In order to streamline attendance, this year we will be receiving attendance excuse notes electronically, not paper copies.

All excuse notes should be sent to tae_attendance@pender.k12.nc.us

This includes doctors notes, parent notes, etc. This allows us to make sure all excuse notes get to where they need to be. It also allows families to have documentation that they sent in their notes instead of things getting lost.

It is still best practice to communicate with the teacher in the event of the absence to ensure students have all necessary make up work, but you do not need to give the teacher the excuse note.

Please review Board Policy 4400 for the full attendance policy and to ensure you are up to date on what constitutes and excused absence. It can be found here:
