Superintendent'sUpdateMarch 14, 2025

Dear CCPS Families,

Read Across America Week was a tremendous success! Multiple guest readers inspired our students, bringing stories to life and nurturing a love for reading. We are incredibly proud of everyone's enthusiasm and participation.

We want to congratulate the students who won the Cecil County Literacy Chapter Young Authors' Contest in Short Story: Adelaide Craig, Michael Sunderland, Max Nickle, Iracema Resendiz, Skylar Greenleaf, Colten Haley, Semira Breitkreutz, Brooklynn Smith, Emilie Truskowski, and Arti Whitmore; in Poetry: Rachel Von Steuben, Cheyenne Pouska, Juliet Buck, Ryan Ramadan, and Karmen Pope. In addition, congratulations to the following students who are state finalists: Adelaide Craig, Cheyenne Pouska, and Iracema Resendiz. Your creativity and hard work are truly commendable!

We also want to congratulate the students awarded Carson Scholarships: Ava Baginski, Emma Blankenship, Benjamin Burton, Madison Burton, Bridget Cohn, Arianna Fazzino, Gabriel Fazzino, Dakota Holmes-Smith, Reese Jones, Braeden Means, Cameron Mink, Kennedy O'Loughlin, Gabrielle Reinhart, Gavin Rogers, Adeline Shertzer, Amelia Troyan, Joshua Von Steuben, Elizabeth Wiecek, Aliyah Williams, and Chase Williams. These students must maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA and exemplify strong humanitarian values through community service.

A special thank you goes out to our business partners who participated in the Teacher for a Day program over the last two weeks. Your involvement and support have significantly impacted our students and staff.

Additionally, we are thrilled to congratulate our state champions for wrestling in the 1A/2A division, Reagan Ramadan and Zachary Garvin from Rising Sun High School. Your dedication and achievements inspire us all.

We also want to recognize the winter sportsmanship award winners: Elkton High School for unified bowling and wrestling and Bohemia High School for boys' and girls' basketball. Your exemplary sportsmanship and teamwork are truly admirable.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and dedication to our students' success. Together, we are making a difference in our community.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
