This October, we’re taking time to honor two groups of people who help make our schools such special places.
October 2: Custodian Appreciation Day
Our custodians keep our buildings safe, clean, and welcoming every single day. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it has an enormous impact on students, staff, and families alike.
October 20–26: Principal Appreciation Week
Our principals lead with heart and dedication, guiding their schools and supporting both students and staff in countless ways.
We’re grateful for all they do to keep our schools running smoothly and our students thriving!

High-Five Fridays Are Here!
If you haven’t had the chance to join us for a High-Five Friday yet, you can still get a glimpse of the joy and connection these mornings bring. Deerfield’s first responders have been teaming up with our schools to spread smiles, encouragement, and plenty of high fives.
Next up in October: Wilmot, Caruso, and Shepard! We hope you’ll join in the fun — because even a quick high five can spark a sense of belonging and send everyone into the weekend with a smile.
Find Us at the Deerfield Farmers Market!
Look for District 109 at the Deerfield Farmers Market on Saturday, October 11! We’ll be there to answer your questions about Redefine 109 or anything else about our schools – and we will enjoy the best part of the market right alongside you (yes, we have our tote bags ready to fill with brussels sprouts).
Stop by our table, say hello, and let’s talk about how we can be stronger together and maybe even swap a favorite recipe or two!
Make a Career Move Close to Home
You know that DPS 109 is a supportive school community for students and families. The District also cultivates a community where staff feel valued, and they can pursue their career interests, whether they are teachers, administrators, support and office staff or guest teachers – all of whom play an important role in the education of our students. The District is currently hiring guest teachers.
