Our Learning Community...
This past week we launched our Art Studio, generously funded by our amazing PTA and kicked off our first VAPA Rotation. It was wonderful to see students exploring creativity and expression in new ways, our campus is buzzing with artistic energy!
We also want to remind families that our PTA Family Dine Out is happening this week at Islands Restaurant in Mission Valley on September 15, 16, and 17. It is a great chance to enjoy a meal together, connect with other Jones families, and support our school at the same time. Check out the flyer below for all the details. We hope to see you there!
LCFF SurveyMonkey...
San Diego Unified recently sent emails with a link to complete the LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula) form through SurveyMonkey. The form takes less than 3 minutes to complete and your participation makes a big difference.
The LCFF is California’s way of funding public schools. The information you provide helps determine the amount of funding our school and district receive to support programs, staffing, and resources for students. Simply put: the more families who complete the form, the more accurately our school is funded.
Our goal is to reach a 100% response rate and we are currently at 61%. If you have not already, please take a quick moment to complete the form using the link in your email.
Thank you for supporting our school and helping us access every dollar available for our students!
Coach Jensen's Corner...
We are off to a fabulous start in Physical Education as we learn and practice our PE and dance rules and expectations. Elementary Physical Education (PE) is far more than just recess with rules – it is a foundational part of a child’s development that sets the stage for lifelong health, learning, and social success. Elementary years are a golden window for shaping attitudes toward movement and health. A well-designed PE curriculum helps children see physical activity not as a chore, but as something fun, empowering, and essential to their well-being.
We begin PE class with a warm-up then move on to a skill with an activity that includes practicing that skill. Our Jones students will experience lots of fun exercise activities and games throughout the school year. Students will also have the opportunity to exercise twice a week through our IMPACT program which works on improving our strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility.
This year, students in TK through 3rd grade will participate in dance and I also include a dance in our IMPACT rotation so ask your student to show you their Chicken Dance. 😊
I’m looking forward to sharing more about PE every month. Until then, stay active!

SANDAG School Commuter Program
Jones Elementary is partnering with SANDAG (who helped the PTA host the Bike Rodeo last Friday) to collect information about your commute to create opportunities for you and your child. Please take five minutes to complete the survey questions about your commute to school.

Your responses will be kept confidential. We value your feedback and thank you for your time in advance!
For questions, please contact the Jones PTA at jonesdolphinspta@gmail.com
Highlights From Last Week...
Our Art Studio opened this week!
4th & 5th grade classrooms and their teachers join art teachers Mrs. Schwartz & Mrs. Noble in B18.
Each art cycle is four weeks and will rotate through the grade levels.
Every Monday during recess Ms. Vu opens the counseling center to students who would like to participate in Recess Refresh, a chance to color and relax with the counselor and friends.
Are you a math person?
One of the best ways to support your child in math is by reminding them, and yourself, that everyone can grow their skills! We are all ‘math people’ when we practice, stay curious, and believe in our ability to learn.
Teachers meeting in grade level Professional Learning Communities studying mathematics.
Friday was the first of six Visual and Performing Arts Rotations
Visiting teachers from SDUSD's VAPA Department come to Jones to provide the instruction.

PTA Spotlight...
The Jones PTA plays a crucial role in fostering strong family engagement at Jones Elementary. By organizing activities that bring families, students, and staff together, the PTA helps grow a stronger sense of belonging within our school community. These events not only strengthen relationships but also empower families to be active participants in their children's education, enhancing student success and building a supportive, collaborative school environment. Thank you for the leadership of our PTA Executive Board members, the volunteers that plan and execute PTA events, and all of you who participate! Check out what our PTA is up to...

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you’re reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!
Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.
Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:
-
Choose a cozy time and space to read together
-
Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)
-
Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension
-
Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby
The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
