New 2025-2026 OCEAN teacher, Melanie Krupa
Melanie Krupa will be joining the OCEAN team for the 2025-26 school year. She will be teaching high school ELA and Social Studies and K-8 enrichment classes. We are excited to welcome her to OCEAN!
Hi, my name is Melanie Krupa. I moved to Port Townsend from Iowa eight years ago with my family, and still haven’t gotten over the luxury of living in a place with mountains and sea. I’m excited to be joining the OCEAN community. I love teaching—I have many years of experience, with various age groups, in various settings. Most recently I taught English Language Learners in Hua Hin, Thailand while on a year-long adventure with my husband and nine-year-old daughter. My philosophy of education is student-centered, project-based, and process-oriented. In my spare time, I enjoy unrealistic writing projects, nachos and poker with the family, fighting quack grass in the garden, panting up a trail behind kids and dogs, and jumping into ridiculously cold water.
End Of Year Potluck Celebration! All OCEAN Families Are Invited

2025-26 OCEAN Schedule
Based on student, family, and teacher feedback we have created a new weekly OCEAN schedule for the 2025-26 school year. These changes provide more time for high school students to have on campus instruction, change conferencing days to Wednesdays, will have K-12 field trips on different days of the week throughout the year, will offer more enrichment times for students in grades K-5, and will provide additional support for some students in grades 6-8 on Tuesday and Friday. This will provide a more equitable amount of time on campus for all grade levels.
Important Changes:
- Grades K-5 will attend school on TUESDAY and FRIDAY
- Grades 6-8 will attend school on MONDAY and THURSDAY
- Grades 9-12 will attend school MON, TUE, THUR, FRI
Below is the schedule and course offerings, and is subject to change based on student enrollment numbers.
- Family Partnership Class Schedule 2025-26 (updated 5.16.2025)
Thank you to all the students and families who provided feedback on our schedule and course offerings. We know change can sometimes be challenging. If your family or student is not sure how to best navigate the schedule for next year please reach out to your conferencing teacher.
