Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Well, here we are with only three days left of the 22-23 school year, very surreal. As we get closer to the last day, our students have been participating in lots of fun activities to celebrate their successful year. On Thursday, the kindergarten and first grade students participated in their Fun Day, and on Friday, the second and third grade had theirs. A big thank you to our P.E. teachers, Parents' Club, and parent volunteers! Even with a couple of rain delays on Friday, everything went very smoothly, and the students had a blast!

To wrap up the year next week, we have three abbreviated days. Parent pick-up will be at 1:20 and buses will be dismissing at 1:45. We have our End of the Year Pep Rally for our students on Monday, where the school will be revealing our new Renaissance theme for next year! On Wednesday, our students and staff will be doing a "clap out" for our third graders, as we wish them well moving on to the Miller School.

To all of the fathers, and loved ones who serve as fathers, in our school community, we wish you a very Happy Father's Day on Sunday! Thank you for all you do for your children; we know it is not an easy job. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sincerely,

Rachel Casumpang

Principal

Top Readers!

The final top reading classes for this year were Mrs. Huba's class and Mrs. Efstatos' class. Congratulations on all of your reading in the month of May!

After counting all of the minutes of reading for the whole year, our top Slaybaugh reader for the 2023-2024 school year is Amelia Konkel. Amelia was named our "Supreme Golden Pineapple Reader" for the year. This special 2nd grader in Mrs. Zompa's class has been reading, on average, over 2 hours a day! Congratulations to Amelia and her family for supporting what we hope becomes a wonderful lifetime habit!

Amelia was also the Top Reader for the Month of May!

Scarlett Held, 3rd grade, was our top reader for the month of May!

Great Artwork "Spotted!"

Kindergarten's small art class took on the project of creating a 3D safari giraffe. The students asked to have a picture taken of them holding their creation. They were really proud of their work. They also got ideas from each other and incorporated them in their work. These students showed creativity and great sharing skills while working on their projects!

Digging to the End!

Mr. Nale and Miss Sheridan's class were paleontologists for the day!

Thank You for Helping Us Grow!

Mrs. Del Prete & Miss Kim’s 2nd grade students wrote THANK YOU cards for all staff members who helped us grow this year!

Getting in Touch with Mother Nature!

Mrs. Bernardino, Mrs. Ungerer and Mrs. N's class had a wonderful time visiting "Slaybaugh's Teaching Gardens." The gardens were created and maintained to support our educational efforts in teaching sustainability. We had so much fun learning about how to help our environment and what we can do to keep our planet clean and safe!

"Do-nut Leave Us!"

On Wednesday, our entire staff had the opportunity to honor our two very special retirees, Ms. Kathy Waszen, remedial teacher and EHTEA President, and Mrs. Lisa Sooy, GT teacher. We thank them both for their service to the field of education, as they are both remarkable women who have positively impacted many students' lives. We certainly "do-nut" want them to leave, but we are so very happy for each of them as they embark on this exciting new chapter of their lives!

Pizza for Pops!

Students in Mrs Huba, Mrs. Pellegrini, Mrs. Colquhoun and Ms. Zompa’s classes celebrated Father’s Day with Pizza for Pops thanks to a PRIDE grant from the Egg Harbor Township Education Association. The children invited special guests for snacks, a game of Father’s Day Feud and a selfie station that created memories to last a lifetime.
