Block Newsletter

Rees Art News

Hello Rees Families! Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our annual Spring Block/Library night. It was a lot of fun and I loved seeing everyone. We have made it to the last month of the 2024/2023 school year! Wow, did it fly by fast! I have had a wonderful time this year making art and creating memories with our Rees students. Below, please find what is happening in the Rees Art Studio:

Kindergarten: Painting our clay pinch pots is next on the art schedule. Students have been asking about their pinch pots and they cannot wait to bring them home.

1st Grade: First grade is still working on their paper plate tree weaving. Most of the tree branches and trunks are complete and soon we will be weaving the leaves. In addition, we will be painting our clay pinch animals soon.

2nd Grade: Second grade students are currently working on their plastic cup basket weaving. Students will also soon be painting their clay suns/flowers to bring home.

3rd Grade: Third grade students are creating a loom out of cardboard and then weaving yarn on the loom to create a pocket weave. Students will be taking a little break from weaving to paint their clay animal pots.

4th Grade: Fourth grade students are still learning to weave friendship bracelets on a wheel loom. In addition, students will soon be painting their clay fish.

I hope everyone has an amazing summer and keep on creating!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Wilson

Rees Health/Technology News

All students have completed multiple coding activities with code.org to help them with puzzle solving and computational coding. Students will continue to learn problem solving through coding lessons and activities. They have solved puzzles and games using Angry Birds. Others have programed some basketball type games using physics and conditional commands and events. Many will get to program dancers and have fun making their sloths and sharks do the dab and other dance moves to fun clips of songs.

Thanks,

Scott Williams

Rees P.E. News

3rd and 4th graders will continue to practice for our third and final testing window April 25 through May 10. This will include push-ups, curl ups, and PACER Test.

Kindergarten through second grade students have progressed tremendously in locomotor skills! In, P.E., we will continue to work on locomotor skills, and introduce game/ sports skills that will keep students motivated to improve their health and wellness. Recently, Rees students have been introduced to kickball, soccer, pool noodle tag, and volleyball during P.E. Coach Fonseca and Coach G are proud of each student because they have worked hard to improve their health and wellness.

Rees Music (K-4) News

We made it to May!

I have really enjoyed sharing music with all of our Rees Stars. They are so talented and creative. Our last month of school will be spent reviewing songs, games, and dances. Fun, fun, fun!

· Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be learning circle games, dramatic play, and using more props and manipulatives. Our songs will be about animals, Spring, and Summer!

· 2nd Graders are going to be learning partner games and dances. They will be doing some review games in Quaver Music and with Kahoot!

· 3rd Graders are continuing to read note names on the music staff. They will also start a unit on stick dances and tinikling!

· 4th Graders will continue recorders and finish up our Recorder Karate unit. They are displaying their belts on their personal instruments! We have many who have already completed the challenge!

I will be choosing our Alief Music Memory Olympics team this month. The team will learn to aurally identify eleven pieces from throughout the year, and take a listening test. Fifteen fourth grade students are going to be invited to participate in a virtual event on May 14.

We will also have our final Rees Choir concert on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m.

Thank you for allowing them the opportunity to make beautiful music with me!
